John Combs

John Wesley Combs was born September 20, 1944 to Mack and Angelene Combs in Homer, Louisiana. He was the 10th child of twelve. There were six brothers and six sisters. His brothers' names were: Mack, Willie Ivory, Willie Drew, Odis, and Almer Ray. The sisters' names were: Ella Mae Combs, Annie Andrews, Enora Johnson, Elnora Williams, Cleola Williams and Rose Thomas. He was baptized at an early age at Rocky Mountain Baptist Church in Homer, Louisiana.
After graduating from Mayfield High School, he entered the military, signing up to be in the Army. He was a sergeant stationed in Ulm, Germany, and Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. In Kentucky, he met Brenda Joyce Kendrick. They were married on August 30, 1969. They moved to Colorado where on July 4, 1970, they had their only child, John Wesley Combs II.
He was employed at Champion Office Products, followed by McKesson Office and then Nationwide Papers as a Shipping Manager.
In the early 1980s, he became a member of King Baptist Church in Colorado. He served many years as a member of the choir and the head of the videography department, filming numerous weddings and other church events. This became a personal business that led him to filming many non-church events and ceremonies throughout the Denver Metro area. In 2009 he became a member of the Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church.
In his leisure time, he started filming various documentaries and other film projects. He helped others in their endeavors to become videographers as well; being a mentor to those interested in the craft. He was an avid follower of sports, particularly football, which he played in high school.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing which he did with friends and family.
As a quiet man, he spoke meaningfully, but could just as easily joke and laugh with his family and friends. He would be remembered by family as the practical joker of the family as well as the one concerned with all of the others' welfare, being proactive in aiding in matters in which all were involved.
He will best be remembered by his friends for offering an ear to listen to their life's troubles and offering key advice for them to act on.
John Wesley Combs passed away quietly on May 2, 2020 at the Medical Center of Aurora. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Brenda, his son John, one brother Almer Ray Combs (Tina), two sisters Cleola Williams and Rose Thomas (Calvin), three grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
