Jimmy Hammonds

September 2, 1951 — March 31, 2019

Jimmy Edward Hammonds was born on September 2, 1951, in Monroe, Louisiana to his parents Leon J. Wilson and Mary L Hammonds. He was the eleventh of fifteen children born into the family. Jimmy relocated to Denver, Colorado in 1969.

Jimmy grew up in Monroe, Louisiana and completed high school at Richwood High School. After high school, Jimmy learned a trade cutting meat in which he used those skills later in life to become a meat cutter at a big franchise super market and at Downing Soopers in Denver, Colorado. Over the years, Jimmy had various jobs and the most notable came from his entrepreneur mindset. If not careful, he could sell you the shoes on your own feet.

Jimmy had a passion for nature and always looked for the good in everyone. Close friends and family jokingly called him "Hambone" to
highlight his meat cutting trade. Jimmy was a creature of habit. Everything had its place and in its place was everything. Jimmy had a playful personality and brought joy to those he encountered. Jimmy was a God-fearing man whose favorite prayers were Psalm 23 and the Serenity prayer. After many trials and tribulation in life, Jimmy became disabled. During that time, he totally surrendered his life to God realizing that this battle was not his but rather that of the Lord.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, Leon Wilson, mother, Mary Hammonds and eight brothers: Leon Jr., Nazareth Wilson, William Wilson, Willie Wilson, Steve Wilson, Jesses Wilson, Samuel Wilson, and Freddy Wilson., two sisters, Dorothy Wilson and Mari Phillips.

Jimmy Edward Hammonds departed this life on March 31, 2019, in Denver, Colorado. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving daughter Brittany Jones., his brother, Isaiah Wilson and three sisters, Rose Clay, Sarah Sims, Michelle Johnson-Bradford, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
