Jean Marie Mays was born on January 2, 1930, to her parents, Bonnie and Jimmy Walker. Jean was one of five children, Ronnie, Bobby, Elmer, George and Ethel.
As a child, Jean enjoyed horseback riding, farming, fishing, and going to school. Although Jean had many friends, she knew the importance of spending time with her family for the time she spent with her family would be something she didn’t want to take for granted. An eager child growing up, Jean would not shy away from challenges, she therefore did her best in school and tried to excel at everything she did.
A true native of Denver, Jean was educated through Denver Public Schools. She attended Manuel High School and graduated In 1945. Following high school, Jean met and later married, Ronnie Stewart. The couple were blessed with two children, Richard and David. A homemaker at heart, Jean excelled in raising her sons to become the men they are today. She also took on a job as a Housekeeper at St. Luke’s Presbyterian Hospital to provide extra income for her family. She made many sacrifices for her family but knew that it was for the best.
A True woman of faith, Jean devoted her life to Christ and became a member of Central Baptist Church. She was a proud member for more than 50 years, and served in many capacities, such as the church nurse through this current time. Needless to say, Jean knew that her help came from the Lord, and she instilled this in her family.
During her free time, Jean loved to play Dominoes. If you came over and challenged her, you better have brought you’re A-game with you, because she always played to win. She also enjoyed fishing, which she carried over from her childhood. But, most of all, she took pride in the time that she spent with her children and grandchildren.
Jean is preceded in death by her loving husband, Ronnie Stewart; her parents Bonnie and Jimmy Walker; and siblings, Ronnie, Bobby, and George Tinsley.
