Janet Arlene Davis was the sixth child, born October 29, 1952 in Denver Colorado at Presbyterian Saint Luke’s hospital to Beatrice Davis and Curtis Smith. Janet attended Denver Public Schools, Crofton and Smith Elementary, Smiley Junior High and East High School. Janet was the best at playing jacks among her siblings. She was also good at playing tether-ball and hop-scotch on the playground. She would take her two younger siblings and their cousins to the school ground and they would swing as high as they could on the swings and see who could jump out the swing the furthest, of course Janet did. They would play on the merry go-round until they would all get dizzy and sick. Janet was good at impersonations, like sounding like she was from Jamaica or being a Valley Girl. She would take on that voice in phone conversations or in person and people believed she was from the islands or Africa. Janet loved singing, reading, and journaling she start journaling in her teenage years. She was a good dancer in the 60’s through the 80’s after that she’d say, “I can’t do all that stuff they’re doing now”. Janet loved adding the elephant figurines and pictures to her large collection, she even named some of the elephant figurines she collected. Janet also liked playing games with her family and Madd Gab was her favorite, she always wanted to play that game because she thought is was so funny the sounds people made when they were trying to figure out what the actual word was. She loved listening to some of her favorite gospel artist like, Donnie McClurkin, who she loved a lot, she would say “he’s going to be my husband”! She also enjoyed Daryl Coley, all the old school artist, Johnnie Mathis (Chances Are) and of course Luther Vandross, she attended one of his concerts. Janet loved to write, and had written two books that were in the process of being published, and she wrote beautiful poetry. She learned how to perfect her mother’s seven-up pound cakes and macaroni and cheese. Her task at the family gatherings was to bring the pound cake or sweet potatoes or the gravy. Sometimes she would bring her own concoction of chicken pasta salad, she knew the family loved it, so she taught Nay, Kodi and Elia how to make it. She was very crafty and creative, she would make all kinds of nifty crafts, like sister girl pins, or pins using the insides of watches and unique buttons that would turn out to be beautiful pins to wear on your lapel. She perfected her craft with making beautiful jewelry. She received her GED and later went to Cosmetology college. The joy of her life began when she gave birth to her handsome son James Verdell Davis in 1982. She kept a close watch over her son and made sure he completed school. Upon his completion, he joined the U.S. Navy, however this was quicker than Janet realized and she tried to change the outcome, but it was a decision he made and they both agreed to. She was a proud mother when the final process of being an official Navy Officer happened for James. She loved her son with all her heart. Janet loved all here nieces and nephews and her sister Nay and her two children Evan and Elia as if they were her own. She would tell anyone about them and would say “those are my sister’s kids but they are my babies” She attended Community College of Denver and received a certificate of completion as Office Specialist. She continued to work towards getting her AA degree from Community College of Denver but decided to set-up her home- based business of making jewelry. She had such a creative eye and design with jewelry that she decided to have her own her business cards made with the name TENAJ CREATIONS which is Janet spelled backwards. She loved creating her jewelry and sold much to friends, relatives and church members. She placed some of her creations in small boutiques, but enjoyed serving people she knew and seeing them wear her creations. Janet worked for nine years at CHFA. She also worked at Colorado University Hospital in the Cath lab for six years. She was so excited with this position she would come to work two hours earlier than her normal start time. That was one of Janet’s practices, Be on Time! Her last job was with the American Cancer Society for three years. This job was finally the job she felt GOD gave her and she could give back to people because she had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. The goodness of the Lord spared her from any chemo or radiation and she was a survivor of 10 years. At this job, she encouraged many patients who may have dealt with similar situations as herself. Janet became the proud grandmother to twin girls in February 2014, Laelle Arlene and Marin Stella Davis. This was one of her long-time dreams that came true. She would show everyone pictures of her grandchildren, she loved them dearly. She loved to hear them call her Meemaw!
