James Earle Taylor, Sr. was born on April 30, 1931, in Boligee, Alabama to his parents, Walter Taylor and Henrietta Cobb Taylor. He was the first child born in the family. He was raised surrounded by his brothers,
William, Mack, Willie, Howard, and his sister, Cora. His siblings affectionately referred to him as `Bay’. As a child, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and drawing. He received his early education in Alabama, where he graduated from Greene County Training School in 1952. He maintained a B+ average and was on the varsity football team.
On July 16, 1963, James married the former Priscilla C. Smith in Inkster, Michigan. To this union four children were born, Tina, James Jr. Arnay and Ronald. Priscilla fondly remembers the special time spent as a family at Belle Isle Park. Arnay remembers dad watching cartoons with her before going to work and bringing her powdered doughnuts from work. She remembers his love and devotion for them and stellar work ethics. James, Jr., remembers his knowledge of cars and airplanes. Ronald remembers, how they would go out to the airport to watch the airplanes take off and land. He also remembers his visiting Florida to help out. Ronald remembers his father's love and support and never letting him down, and he getting McDonald’s when he asked.
He was baptized at an early and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. When he moved to Detroit he became a member of First Missionary Baptist Church of Inkster. After marrying his beloved wife throughout the years, he studied the Bible with Jehovah Witnesses.
James was later blessed with three grandchildren, Jonathan, Rylee and Ronald, Jr., who were an additional source of joy and pride in his life. Jonathan spent a lot of time with his ‘Pa-pa’, he gave Jonathan the nickname Buster. They all have many happy and memorable moments of special times spent together.
By profession, James was employed with United Airlines as a member of the Ramp Service Team. He was also an Auto Mechanic. Whatever job, he performed his task with a spirit of excellence. He worked well with his co-workers and the management team. He is also remembered as being an excellent mechanic.
James was a fun-loving man, who enjoyed life and those he encircled. In his free time, he enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends. His closest friends, Ben Biddex and Andrew Todd, will miss the camaraderie's they all shared together and the fact that he was a true and trusted friend. James was a dedicated husband, father, and friend. He absolutely loved his family and will be remembered as a loving, hardworking man. To know James was to love him.
He is preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Taylor, his parents, Walter and Henrietta Taylor; a brother, Mack Taylor; and a sister, Cora Martin.
James Earle Taylor, Sr. quietly passed away surrounded by the love of life, Priscilla C. Taylor of Denver, Colorado, He also leaves 2 sons, James E. (Voncia) Taylor, Jr of Aurora, Colorado and Ronald B. L. (Lynzy) Taylor, Sr. of Orlando, Florida; 1 daughter, Arnay E. Taylor of Carson, California; 3 brothers, William (Marion) Taylor of Canton, Michigan, Willie Taylor of Inkster, Michigan, and Howard (Ruth) Taylor of Birmingham, Alabama; 3 grandchildren, Jonathan L. Calhoun, Rylee R. Taylor and Ronald Taylor, Jr., sister-in-law Fannie (Mack) Taylor of Boligee, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
