James Sanders Jr., was born May 1, 1951 at Rose Memorial Hospital in Denver, Colorado. He is the son from the union of James and Grace Sanders.
He attended Mt. Calvary Lutheran, from kindergarten to first grade and finished elementary school at Wyatt . He attended Cole Jr. High and graduated from Manual High School in Denver.
He attended Western State College for one year and also attended one year at Adams State College in Sterling Colorado.
His years of employment included Continental Can Company, Denver Water Board and the latest was with General Foods.
He loved sports. In high school and college he was on the varsity basketball team, and while at Manual High he tried to break the high jump record.
Not only was he a basketball fan, he loved fishing, a passion passed down to him from his father.
Numerous fishing trips in and around Denver and in the mountains with friends and family made his day, especially when he was able to teach his nieces and nephews how to fish; most of the time the young ones caught trout in the mountains,
His additional loves were gardening, which produced delicious vegetable, barbequing at holiday events, philosophical conversations and playing the congas. An excellent drummer of the congas, he joined many talented musicians at different events throughout the city. Also, while attending All Nations Pentecostal Center, he played the “congas.” Later, he joined Antioch COGIC under the late Bishop Johnson.
Jimmy loved the Lord Jesus Christ and over the years had read and studied the Bible from cover to cover several times. His inquisitive nature led him on many occasions to call his Uncle Justus the son of the late Bishop Chester E. Morgan, and his cousin J.P, for understanding or clarity on scriptures' . His inquisitive mind always led him to search out more information about a subject, He loved reading.
His love for mankind was full of love and generosity. He helped many family members, friends and neighbors over the years. His sister Gracie called him the “Gentle Spirit.” His sister Jeanie said, “My best friend we’ll finish our conversations in Heaven.”
Jimmy leaves to cherish his memories to a loving mother, Grade Garrett, his sisters, Marjorie Hobbs, Grace Gautier, and Emma Jean Sanders-Starks.
