James Huff

June 27, 1958 — December 24, 2016

James Edward Huff was born on June 27, 1958, in Wichita, Kansas to his parents, Walter E. Huff and Elvira Giles-Huff. He was the third child born in the family. He was raised surrounded by his brothers, Earl, Charles, Walter, Daniel, David and his sister, Christine. As a child, he was outgoing, athletic, and enjoyed being around older people. He was obedient and respectful. His siblings remember him being the "enforcer" by making them do household chores. James received his formal education in Denver, Colorado, where he graduated from Manual High School. He furthered his education by earning a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Western State Colorado University in Gunnison, Colorado. On February 26, 2000, James married the love of his life, the former Monica Bragg. They first met in 1986, when Monica gave his cousin a ride to his apartment. After six weeks asking for a date, Monica finally agreed. James was so sure, he told Monica and others "they were going to get married." In 1990, they were blessed with a son they named, Brendan. Shortly after that, there niece, Tunisia joined the family. She was raised as their daughter and James and Monica were her Foster Parents. The family shared many happy and memorable moments together. The home was filled with love and they hosted large family gatherings of all occasions, as well as holiday parties. James and his wife, Monica hosted the Family Annual Labor Day Picnic that was started by his mother and aunt. They didn't mind lending a helping hand when needed. They enjoyed traveling in the United States and to Mexico. Monica remembers their annual exercise trip, where they would walk at least 25 miles per day for a week just to spend quality time with each other. By profession, James was a Financial Advisor Liaison for Kaiser Permanente. He was respected by his co-workers and his supervisors. He is remembered as being hard-working and always making others smile. He received a number of Kaiser-Service Awards for his outstanding service for the company. A man of faith and belief in the Lord, James accepted the Lord as his personal savior and joined Gospel Mission in Denver, when he was 17 years old. He would carry the love of God in his heart for the rest of his life. Anyone who knew James, knew he loved Basketball. He played at many of the recreation centers in the area and he was a mentor to many of the young people. His love of the sport was shared by many of his friends over a span of many years. The camaraderie they all shared together will be forever cherished. Over the years, he was a part of many Basketball Championships for the Boys and Girls Club. James was a fun-loving man, who enjoyed life and those he encircled, he continued to enjoy traveling and spending quality time with family and friends. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this one of a kind guy, who had a giving heart and will be remembered for his leadership skills and the fact that he was everyone's favorite, brother, son, friend, cousin and nephew. To know James was to love him Monica fondly remembers, "Our ending was as beautiful as our beginning." James kept coming back in the house and kissing me. He told me "it was a beautiful day to get moving. As he walked out of the gate, headed to play basketball, he looked back and said, "I Love You"; my last words to him were "I Love You Back." On December 24, 2016, James Edward Huff departed this life, doing what he loved, playing basketball in Denver, Colorado.
