James Alaphaeus Bryant, Sr. was born on January 22, 1949, in Wayne County, North Carolina to Artelia Bryant. He was the eldest of two boys. James was raised with his youngest brother, Raymond. While James was young, the family moved to Denver, Colorado. He was educated in the Denver Public School system from elementary, junior high, and then graduated from Manual High School. At an early age, James began working and continued until his health determined he could no longer continue. He worked for 40 years at Wheat Ridge Regional Center as a driver, 20 years for Arby's as a customer service professional, and 15 years for Frontier Airlines as a baggage handler. There were several other jobs in between; however, work was his happiness. In 1975, James met Wanda Lewis, the two became very fond of each other and did everything together. On September 6, 1977, they were joined together in holy matrimony. He was the proud father of four wonderful children, James, Jr., Tanela, Arklesha, and Danay. The family would spend many memorable moments together. Later, James was blessed with 6 grandchildren. He loved his grandchildren and being called "Pa Pa." James loved spending time at home doing home improvements and standing back admiring his handy work. James was a man of integrity and unconditional love. James was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Bryant. James Alaphaeus Bryant, Sr. departed this life on October 26, 2015, in Denver, Colorado. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 38 years, Wanda Bryant, Denver; one son, James A. Bryant Jr., Oklahoma City, OK; three daughters, Tanela Bryant, Arklesha Bryant, California and Danay Bryant, Houston, TX; his parents, Barry and Artelia Johnson of Virginia Beach, VA; brother-in-law, Jerry Lewis, Denver; father-in-law, John E. Lewis, Jr., Chicago, IL; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
