Jacquelyne Denise Pettes

April 24, 1962 — January 21, 2025

Jacquelyne Denise Pettes was born on Tuesday, April 24, 1962 to her loving parents Charley Brown Pettes Jr. and Marjorie Ann Pettes in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She was the youngest of 3 children, sister Marla Dashiell and brother Anthony Pettes.

Jacque was an active child and involved in many things. Bowling at Dahlia Lanes, she attended the Montgomery Ward Modeling School, Drill and Step Team, and was a member of the Denver Flyers Track Club. Jacque was also a member of the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Troop.

On the weekends you could find Jacque and her friends playing childhood games. On Fridays the children took pleasure playing hide and seek in City Park Golf course. Sundays the family found themselves heavily involved with activities at Union Baptist Church where they were long-time members.

She was educated in Denver Public Schools where she attended Columbine Elementary, Merrill Middle School, and graduated from East High School. While at East, she was a cheerleader.

Jacque was the apple of her mother’s eye, and acquired a love for shopping!

Bowling was a family affair, and Jacque was a member of the Denver Strikettes Bowling Club. She spent many Friday and Saturday nights in leagues at AAA, Celebrity Sports Center, Hoffman Heights, and Monaco Lanes. She also found herself traveling out of town for bowling tournaments.

Jacque was a professional bus driver for many years. She served as a bus driver at Denver Public Schools from 1987 – 2016. She received many Safe Driving Awards while on staff.

Family was a major cornerstone in Jacques’s world. Spending time with her loved ones made her happy. Jacque took great joy in being a mother and aunt. She was extremely involved in the children’s lives and had no issue with letting her hair down for the fun of it all. One cherished memory was when she hosted a sleepover where all the kids on the block attended. They watched movies and suddenly a popcorn fight broke out. Things escalated and before you know it, ketchup, mustard, and various other condiments were being sprayed all over the room!

Jacque and Dee built a good life together. They took pride in raising the boys. From attending games to teaching life skills, going fishing in the Green Pickle to watching reality TV, putting together puzzles to listening to music, they were a unit. Jacque enjoyed cooking and together, they contributed to curating amazing meals. Jacque had a sense of humor that wasn’t obvious to everyone. Deidra vividly remembers a time Jacque purposely revved the Beretta in a snowstorm to get laugh!

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Marjorie Pettes; brother, Anthony Pettes; and great-niece, Journee Abrams.

Jacque is survived by her son, Harrison Pettes; Life Partner, Deidre Griggs; Sister, Marla Dashiell; Nieces, Tiffany Dashiell, Marqui (Michael) Dashiell-Abrams, Nephew, Jason (Alexis) Pettes; Great Niece, Leah; Great Nephews, Josiah, Jeremiah, Gregory and many more family members; friends Tatia Dokes McKinley and Saratina Finley.
