Jacob Miller

December 4, 1928 — November 12, 2024

Denver, CO

Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes. Because for those who love with heart and soul, there is no such thing as separation. –Rumi Jacob Miller was born on December 4, 1928, in Chatham County, just outside of Savannah, Georgia, to Samuel Bryant and Ethel Lee Wilson. He was the firstborn child in his family, which included six sisters— Ira, Margaret Albertha (deceased), Rita (deceased), Marie (deceased), Anne—and his brother, James. Jacob received his early education in the public schools of Savannah. In 1946, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served with distinction as a Clinical Specialist. Over the course of his military career, he earned numerous awards and citations for his exceptional service. Jacob was stationed in South Carolina, Korea, Colorado, Georgia, and Germany, and served during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After 22 years of dedicated service, he retired in 1970 with the rank of SFC (E7). Following his military retirement, Jacob worked for Union Carbide for 12 years, serving as a foreman and union steward. He later spent 26 years at PCL Construction Enterprises, Inc., where he continued to apply his skills and expertise. Jacob would likely have worked longer, but he chose to retire to care for his wife. On October 16, 1952, Jacob married Jewell L. Greene in a ceremony in Savannah, Georgia. The couple first met on Labor Day, September 7, 1952, at a bus station in Washington, D.C. At the time, Jewell was headed to Delaware to visit her sister after graduating from high school. One month later, Jacob and Jewell became engaged, and they were married just a few weeks after that. At the time of Jacob’s passing, the couple had been together for 72 years. To this union, they were blessed with sons, Jacob and Jon, and daughters, Jacquelyn and Joan. Jacob was a loving and devoted husband and father, taking great pride in caring for and nurturing his family. They shared many happy and precious moments together. Jacob was also blessed with 20 grandchildren—Melinda, Joseph, Maria-Louise, Jovan, Jared, Jasmine, Nicolus, Genevieve, Jacque, Kyle, Kiely, Bonnie, Kevin, Amy, Kathleen, Ethan, David, Darrell (DJ), Dorian, and Darnell—all of whom brought him immense joy and pride. In addition, he was blessed with 15 great-grandchildren. Jacob was a caring, generous, and loving person who made it a point to offer advice and support to anyone in need. A man of deep faith, Jacob was a devoted member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church (SDA), where he served faithfully as a Deacon. He believed in the power of prayer and the importance of maintaining a strong relationship with the Lord. Jacob loved his church and cherished the fellowship he shared with his church family. At the time of his passing, he had been a dedicated member for over 45 years. Jacob was also a fun-loving individual who enjoyed life and the company of those around him. In his free time, he delighted in bowling, watching football, and playing dominoes and card games. His closest friends and loved ones, including Pamela Richardson, Myron Neeley, Levy Scott, Dr. Faye Rison, Sondra Scott, Phillip Scott, Chef Barbara Warnsley, Chef Rebecca Morgan, Emebet Abebe, Charnika Maxey, Henry & Joan Fuoss, Lori Hill, Becky Sexton, Loanne Sprigg, Beverly Cisse, Stephanie Dahl, Gena Hannaway, Susie Wong-Downs, and Joseph & Chanda Burke, shared many memorable moments together. They will always remember his generosity, sense of humor, sharp wit, and his strong opinions. Jacob’s kind heart and naturing demeanor earned him the respect of all who knew him. To know Jacob was to love him, and he will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to call him a friend. Jacob Miller departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on November 12, 2024, in Centennial, Colorado surrounded by his family. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include his loving and devoted wife, Jewell L. Miller; 2 sons, Jacob (Patricia) Miller, Jr., and Jon L. Miller; 2 daughters, Jacquelyn Y. (David Harris) Miller, Joan Y. (Donald) Thorne; 1 brother, James H. (Yvonne) Jordan; 2 sisters, Anne (Henry) Walker, and Albertha Bryant; 20 grandchildren; and 15 greatgrandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends
