Ira Mae Gordon was born on November 4, 1924 in Jefferson, Texas to her parents, Jim Durham and Susie Armstrong Durham. Ira was the first of six children born to this union. She was raised with her brother, Jimmy, and her sisters, Lousie, Elizabeth, Elma, and Alice. As a youth, Ira attended high school in Jefferson, Texas, were she achieved great success at Central High School. As a young adult, Ira met Matthew Carlisle. The two would court for a while, and later join in holy matrimony at the Pleasant Baptist Church in Jefferson, Texas. To this union, Matthew, James, Jr., Mary, Shirley, Pamela, Desiree, Sandra, and Renee were born. Together, the family shared many memorable moments. Ira was a proud mother and wife and showed her love to her family. Later, Ira met James W. Gordon. On November 23, 1980, the two became one in Denver, Colorado. The two enjoyed each other's company and shared their love and faith together. Ira was blessed with 18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchild. This addition would bring great joy to her life, as they would affectionately nickname her, "Grand-Grand." By profession, Ira was a manager at Roadway, and the Ace Grocery Store. Her co-workers consider her a woman of excellence, because she only accepted the best from them. For the past 5 years, Ira dedicated her life to Jehovah, as she became a Jehovah's Witness. Her faith and love for God was extreme, and wanted to share it with everyone with which she came into contact. Ira enjoyed sharing time with her friends, Josephine, and Shondale McGowan and her family. They all remember her as a loving person, with loving ways. Ira's love for other will always stay fresh in our hearts and mind. Ira was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew Carlisle, and husband, James W. Gordon; her son, James W. Gordon, Jr.; her daughter, Shirley J. Dawkins; her parents, Jim and Susie Durham; her sisters, Lousie Jackson, and Elizabeth Taylor. Ira Mae Gordon departed this life on August 24, 2015, in Denver, Colorado at her home. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Matthew (Wanda) Carlisle, Mary (Al) Choutka, Pamela (Walter) Williams, Desiree Guy, Sandra Cole, and Renee (Alphonso) Simpson; her brother, Jimmy (Elma) Durham; her sisters, Alice Touchstone, Elma (Lafayette) Guinn; 18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
