Harold J. Armstrong was born on August 20, 1925 in Prescott, Arkansas to the union of Will Armstrong and Mamie Lee (Slay) Armstrong, who preceded him in death. Harold was the second oldest of five siblings: Marion Armstrong (deceased), Clara Armstrong, Albert Armstrong (deceased) and Frank Armstrong. Harold was a member of Ward Chapel AME Church in Prescott, Arkansas. He loved the Lord and had a strong belief in the power of prayer. Harold attended elementary and secondary school in Prescott, Arkansas and attended the University of Maryland through the military. Harold was an energetic young man who displayed many talents, one of which was helping his father build their first family home. Harold and his father wired the family home and installed the plumbing. Harold was a loving son and a dedicated brother to his siblings. On November I, 1943, Harold joined the United States Army to assist in supporting his siblings. He was stationed with the 82nd Airborne in Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he met the lovely Edith P. George, with whom he united in holy matrimony. To this union Yvonne, Ronnie, Donald and Marc were born. Later, his eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren were an added source of joy and pride in his life. His military career allowed him and his family to travel to Austria, Germany, Italy, France, Monaco, Switzerland and throughout the United States. After having served 28YJ years in the military, Harold retired with an Honorable Discharge in 1971 with the rank of Sergeant First Class. Along with his brother Albert, Harold opened the UniFarm Mobil Service Station on East 34th Ave and Colorado Boulevard. When Mobil and Conoco merged, Conoco offered Harold a management position with the company. After spending 15 years with Conoco, he retired and became Building President( of the Clyde Seiler Chapter 21, Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in Denver, Colorado. He spent 16 years as a member of the DAV. Harold joined the Syrian Temple #49 in 1977. He served in several capacities and received many leadership awards. Harold's passion was watching the Denver Broncos, win or lose. He lovingly referred to them as the Donkeys and would not miss a single game. He, also, enjoyed landscaping his borne and took great pride in maintaining a beautiful lawn. Harold J. Armstrong of Aurora, Colorado, died August 21, 2012. He was surrounded by his loving family. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Edith P. Armstrong of Aurora; his Daughter, Yvonne P. Brown, (Eugene) of Aurora, his sons, Donald J. Armstrong (Barbara), Ronnie H. Armstrong and Marc S. Armstrong; his sister, Clara Armstrong of Denver, Colorado; his brother, Frank A. Armstrong of Little Rock, Arkansas; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to DaVita Aurora Dialysis, 1411 So.
