Gregory Keith Johnson, aka, “Goggie” was born on April 11, 1962, in Topeka, Kansas to his parents, Lee Roy Johnson, Jr. and Joan Lee Johnson. He was the second child born in the family. He was raised surrounded by his brother, Jerrick and his sister, Venese. As a child, he is remembered as throwing rocks like baseballs. His mom says, “for some reason, he was always late coming home from school.” Gregory received his early education on Warner Robbins Air Force Base in Georgia. His dad was relocated to Simbach, Germany and later to Bitburg, Germany and Gregory continued his education. When the family moved to Denver, Colorado, he graduated from George Washington High School. He furthered his education by attending Southern Extension University in Shreveport, LA. On October 26, 1982, Gregory enlisted in the United States Army. While serving his country, he earned an Army Service Ribbon, an Overseas Service Ribbon, a Marksman Ribbon (M16 Rifle and Tow Gunner), and a Sharp Shooter Ribbon (Hand Grenade). He served with honor and distinction and was honorably discharged. Gregory was the proud father of a daughter, named Ebony. They shared many happy and precious moments together. He was later blessed with three grandchildren. By profession, Gregory was a Cook and a Baggage Handler. He was employed by United Airlines and United Parcel Service, as well as many restaurants in the local area. Wherever working, Gregory was hard-working, dependable, and performed his duties with a spirit of excellence. Gregory was a fun-loving man, who enjoyed life and those he encircled. In his free time, he enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends. He was an excellent writer and often shared his writing skills with his mother and other family and friends. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known a kind and wonderful man. To know Gregory was to love him. Gregory Keith Johnson departed this life on August 29, 2018, in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include his daughter, Ebony V. (Brandon) Hill-Cole; 3 grandchildren, Jayden Lee Cole, Major Lee Cole, Aaliyah Vaness Cole; his mother, Joan Johnson (Terry Boatner); his brother, Jerrick W. (Harriet) Johnson; his sister, Venese M. Johnson (Fred M. Martinez); and a host of, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, other relatives and many friends.
