The late Mrs. Grace Nduku Mwele was born on October 20, 1946 as the first born child to Muia Senga and Phillis Muia, in Masii Location Machakos County. She attended Muthei DEB primary from 1957 to 1960 for her CEE then Masii DEB primary from 1961 to 1964 for her KAPE. In 1965 she joined Mbooni girls’ high school where she graduated in 1966 with her Kenya Junior Secondary School Certificate. In 1968, the Late joined Machakos teachers college where she graduated in 1969 as a P2 teacher.
Her teaching career began in 1970 and taught at the following schools:
* Vyulya primary school, Masii
* Athi River Township primary school, Athi River
* St Anne’s Primary School, Nairobi
* Pumwani Primary School, Nairobi.
In 1989 after independently studying and completing high school (form 6), she joined Kenyatta University to pursue her dream of earning a bachelor’s degree in education and graduated in 1994 with a major in music. She was promoted by the Teachers service commission and became a high school teacher where she taught Swahili and Music at the following schools:
* Nairobi Milimani Secondary School, Nairobi
* Upper Hill School, Nairobi.
She retired from active teaching from the teachers’ service commission in 2003, however continued to be a music consultant and an adjudicator for music festivals and travelled extensively all over Kenya. She started Talanta preparatory (Koma rock estate Nairobi) in 2002 where she was the Director/Owner. In 2010 she was hired as an instructor/consultant at Mitaboni ABC Bible College in Mitaboni, Machakos County. The late Grace Mwele was devoted Christian and served the lord diligently and touched many through her voice. She was one of the pioneers of our lady of the visitation catholic church in Makadara, Nairobi and the Muungano National choir where as a member toured extensively in Europe and other countries. Till her demise she also served as a liaison in Kenya for Hope Harmony and Healing a nonprofit based in Chicago that serves the unprivileged through Music.
The late Mrs. Mwele married Peter Mwele in 1971 and together they were blessed with five children; four sons, and one daughter, (Charles Ulanga, Florence Wanzau, Joseph Mbabu, Steve Muia, and Pascal Mackola), eight grandchildren (Kezziah Nduku, Clive Mwele, Andrew Nzau, Ashley Mbabu, Trevor Kimani, Sophia Mwele, and Andrew Mwele).
She fell ill late November 2014, while in Colorado while visiting, and loss her battle with pancreatic cancer on January 3, 2015.
May the Lord rest her soul in eternal peace... till we meet again.
