Gloria Dean Phillips was born on July 21, 1940, in Warren, Arkansas to her parents, Joe Jenkins and Tommie C. Green-Jenkins. She was the second child born to this union. She was raised around her siblings, Joe, Juliette, Patricia, Travis, and Cletha. As a child, they remember her climbing trees, and playing with her cousin, Willis George. Gloria attended Warren High School in Arkansas where she excelled in her education. Gloria met John Henry Phillips in Warren, Arkansas at the "Jut Joint". On December 23, 1959, Gloria and John joined as one in marriage. To this union, they enjoyed eight wonderful children, Betty, Johnny, Lawanda, David, Jackie, Randy, Judy, and Lisa. Together they enjoyed spending quality time. She was later blessed with 12 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren, who lovingly called her, Grandma. They were an added source of joy as she enjoyed caring for and visiting them. After 53 years of marriage, John passed from this life, leaving a strong women and a large tight knit family. By profession, Gloria was a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) for the St. Paul Health Center in Denver, Colorado. Her co-workers enjoyed going out to lunch and traveling the Central City. Gloria was a member of the True Praise and Worship Church for 8 years, where she served as the Mother of the Church. In Gloria's free time, she enjoyed going to the food bank, talking on the phone, talking with her grand kids, and neighbors, sitting on the porch with her dog, CoCo, and gambling in the hills. Her best friend of 31 years, Jean Brown, will miss the love and time they shared together. Gloria will never be forgotten and always loved. Gloria is preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Phillips; her parents, Joe Jenkins and Tommie C. Jenkins Gloria Dean Phillips departed this life on March 15, 2015 in Denver, Colorado. She leaves to cherish her memory and to mourn her loss her children, Betty Mitchell, Johnny Phillips, Lawanda Phillips-Martin, David Phillips, Jackie Phillips, Randy Phillips, Judy Moore, and Lisa Phillips; her siblings, Joe Fred Jenkins, Travis (Veronica) Jenkins, Patricia (George) Morris, Cletha Jenkins, Juliette (Edward) Shamell; 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
