Gertrude Chambers-Richards was born on August 4, 1933 in Bocus Del Toro, The Republic of Panama, to her parents, Lorenzo Brewster and Matilda Willory. She was blessed to enjoy the love and compassion of four sisters, Rebecca, Alberta, Marcelina, and Ellen. Gertrude and her family grew up in Panama, where she received her formal education and life skills. She was a woman of faith, a Catholic parishioner, who loved the Lord, the saints, and the church. While in Panama, Gertrude met and married Edwin A. Chambers, Sr. and to this union seven children were born, Alicia, Eleyda, Herlinda, Jose, Reinaldo, Alonzo, and Edwin, Jr. In 1962, the family left Panama, only to arrive in the United States’ Brooklyn, New York. The family enjoyed many memorable moments together; however, the marriage was later dissolved. While on this journey called life, Gertrude helped raise three additional children, one nephew, Roberto and two nieces, Danxias and Dionisia. She also met and married, Hector Richards. They were inseparable, and 42 years later, they still loved each other. Later, Gertrude was blessed with nine grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. They all remember the impact of her positive outlook and resilience, and how she touched their lives. She will always be remembered. “A strong woman with a good heart; helping others was her calling in life.” Gertrude was a woman of grace, kindness, amazing wit, and resilience. Life was not always graceful, but Gertrude overcame many obstacles in life. She saw the best in everything. By profession, Gertrude was a Nurse’s Aide. She was employed by Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in Bronx, New York. She loved helping others and had a beautiful way of making others feel respected. She treated everyone with dignity, no matter what their station was in life. Her treatment of others was continually returned to this graceful woman as she lived in the hard neighborhoods in Brooklyn and in the Bronx, and never encountered anyone with ill intentions while commuting to and from work in the wee hours of the morning. She would walk through the valley of the shadows of death and fear no evil, because her God was with her and He protected her. After working for many years, Gertrude retired from her physical labor to rest in Orlando, Florida with her husband. 19 years later, they left their home in Florida, and relocated to Denver, Colorado with her family. She enjoyed being around family, and she will truly be missed by all who knew and cherished her. Gertrude was preceded in death by five children, Alicia, Eleyda, Jose, Reinaldo, Alonzo; her parents; her siblings, Rebecca Willory, Alberta Thomas, Marcelina Henry, Ellen White, her cousins, aunts and uncles. The Lord called Gertrude Chambers-Richards home to heaven and she met Him with peace and open arms on December 18, 2017, in Aurora, Colorado. She is survived by her two children, daughter, Herlinda Stanislaus and son Edwin A. Chambers, II; along with grandchildren: Karla Sutlter, Ricardo Richardson, Michael Stanislaus, Ebony Ferbe, Christina Foster, Racquel Chambers, Kesbar Stanislaus, Herisa Stanislaus, and Edwin Chambers, III; seven great grandchildren; nephews, Lorenzo Henry, Vincent Henry, Roberto Simona; nieces, Danxia Elizabeth Collins and Dionisia Simona-Fogg; other relatives, and friends
