Georgie L. Whitlow, born on September 25, 1927 to Rosie L. Morgan and John L. Whitlow. She grew up in LaFayette, Alabama with her older sister, Anna Mae. As a child, she loved playing with her sister and cousins. Georgie received her formal education in Alabama attending Chamber County High School. In high school, she loved to play basketball. She married her high school sweetheart, Eddie B. Wilson. They were blessed with two daughters, Ann and Carrie, before moving to Denver, Colorado, where they were blessed with two more children, Barbara and Leon. Georgie spent her time raising her children before starting her work as a Domestic. In 1966, she started working at Saint Joseph Hospital in Environmental Service, advancing to the field of nursing, where she remained until her retirement. A woman from humble beginnings, she loved the Lord and joined Union Baptist Church in 1959 under the leadership of Reverend John T. Walker. Later, becoming a member of Greater Union Baptist Church, Reverend Gregory Johnson, where she has been a devoted member for over 50 years. Georgie loved to attend church programs. She loved to sing in the choir and was very proud of her service in the Hospitality Ministry. As a single parent, she raised her children in the church. She attended church regularly until her health began to fade. She met and married John W. Bass. They enjoyed traveling, camping, and fishing with their grand-kids. Jack, as he was known, preceded her in death. Georgie also loved being with her special friends, Lillie Smith, Jettie Wells, Dorothy Wilkins, Pearl Gill, and their families. Going out to eat and to the movies with friends, was her passion. She was a very active woman, attending many functions. She always looked forward to the Manual High "Old School" Picnics. She was an active sports fan of baseball, football, and basketball; she loved them all. She never stopped driving; nor was she able to explain the fender dents. Georgie loved dressing and wearing her hats. She also loved the soap operas mainly for fashion ideas. She loved her grandchildren. They enjoyed being at Mama's house. She raised Anika as her own child. She loved all her grandchildren. Georgie was a phenomenal woman and an example for many. She will be missed by all that were fortunate enough to have known this one-of-a-kind woman who touched the lives of so many. She is preceded in death by her husband, John W. Bass, grandchildren, Craig B. Bean; Morail A. Bell, Sr., and sister, Anna M. Webb. Georgie Lee Bass departed this life to be embraced by the Lord on December 27, 2016 in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include her daughters, Martha Ann Bean, Carrie E. McElory, and Barbara (Bryant) Vaughn; son, Leon Wilson – all of Denver, Colorado. Grandchildren, Carolyn Y. Monroe, Leonard D. Bean, Donna K. Bean, Kenya R. Johnson, Anika D. (Damond) McCready, Egina L. Miller, Leon Wilson Jr., Jalontee A. Burnett, Steven D. James-Wilson, and Roger Powell, 13 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and devoted & special friend Mr. Clarence Burns.
