Georgia Nelda Lewis-Elliston was born on January 9, 1924, in Pueblo Colorado, where she was raised by her parents, George Nelson Womack and Clara Emma Womack. She was raised surrounded by the love of her two sisters, Mortelia and Fuchsia. Growing up, Georgia was always studious and diligent in pursuing her education. She attended Pueblo High School District 20 where she graduated with honors on June 6, 1941. She went on to further her education after receiving a scholarship to attend the University of Colorado Boulder, where she majored in Business Administration. In 1947, Georgia was united in marriage to Phillip Bellinger, and from this union three beautiful children were born, Nelda, Cherylene L. and Phillip. She was a very loving and devoted mother to her children. She later met Richard Barnett Lewis and in 1965 the two were married. She cared for him until he passed in 1980. Georgia met Charles E. "Chuck" Elliston and the two were united in marriage in 1982. To this union, Georgia became the stepmother of Michelle Smith. Georgia believed in a strong work ethic. Georgia worked as an Executive Secretary for the Colorado Water Conservation Board until 1958. She went on to work for the Department of Highways; Georgia was the first African American to be promoted to the position of Executive Administrator Assistant. She worked in this position for 26 years, before retiring in 1984. Georgia was a faithful member of the Campbell Chapel A.M.E. Church in Denver, Colorado, for over 60 years. She took her relationship with the Lord seriously and shared the love of Christ everywhere she went. She was truly a phenomenal woman. Georgia was a very loving person always giving of herself, and lending a helping hand where ever she was needed. Georgia was very active in many organizations and clubs. She was a member of the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. She was also very active in the International Association of Lions in the early 1980's with the love and support of her dear friends Mary Love and Lillye Pearl Robinson. She formed the first "all female Lions Club" called the "Lionesses." She held the office of President for the Lionesses District -6 C from 1984 to 1985 and again from 1991 to 1992. She made many contributions to some of her favorite organizations two being the International Hearing Dog, Inc. in 1996, and The 9 News Health fair, every year. Georgia always received awards and acknowledgements for all of her wonderful achievements. She enjoyed writing music and poems in her spare time. She loved all of the Holidays. If given opportunity, she would decorate the house for each one, bringing many laughs and joy to everyone. Let's not forget, she would even dressing up for the holidays. Georgia would participate in the St. Patrick's Day Parade and enjoy every minute of it. Her smile and her beautiful laugh said it all. She also loved to go to Central City and have a fun time with her family and friends by her side. To know Georgia was to love her. She will be greatly missed by all who loves her. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Barnett Lewis, her husband, Charles E. Elliston; her three children, Nelda Bellinger, Cherylene L. Bellinger, Phillip Bellinger; her parents, George and Emma Womack, and her two sisters, Mortelia Womack Black, and Fuchsia Womack Jeanmard. On November 23, 2014, in Denver, Colorado surrounded by her devoted nephew and loving stepdaughter. Georgia departed this life to the embrace of the lord, reuniting her with loving husband, Chuck as she would call him. Together on earth and together in heaven shall they always be happy together forever. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include her stepdaughter, Michelle R (Gaudie) Sudduth of Aurora; her grandchildren, Ayanna Sudduth of Aurora, Evan (Deidra) Gentry, LaDonya Gentry both of Pearland Texas; her devoted nephew, Chris Bryant of Denver; nieces Bettina Brown of Lewisville Texas, Kimberley Howell of Desoto, Texas; goddaughters, Beverly (James) Horsley of Oklahoma City, OK, Shana Gray of Oklahoma; a host of other relatives and many friends.
