"A great soul serves everyone all the time. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again." Georgella was born in Holly Grove, AR to James Johnson and Annie Lillie Moore – Johnson. She was the seventh child of 10 siblings, now after her passing there is one sibling left, Mckinley. Georgella received her formal education and graduated in 1948 from Fargo Agricultural School in Fargo, Arkansas. After graduation Georgella moved to Colorado in 1950 to be with her older sister. She later married Ruther Barner and to this union they had five children, Barbara, Ruther, Jr., Marshall, Jennifer and Herbert. Later her Husband Ruther died in 1968 and she became a single Mom raising her children alone. She provided for her family and was a loving Mother to her children and later Grandmother to her six Grandchildren. In the late 1960's Georgella started out as a nursing assistant and determined to make a better life for her family she returned to school and in 1975 she earned her degree in nursing, retiring from Presbyterian / St. Luke's Hospital as a registered nurse. After visiting Spottswood A.ME Zion Church with her sister, the late Vapi Marley Jones she became a faithful, dedicated loyal member of Spottswood A.M.E. Zion Church for over 40 years. She loved singing in the choir and was a very strong alto. She served in many capacities of the A.M.E. Zion Church, Her many duties at Spottswood include Mother of The Church, President of the Woman's Deacon Board, Stewart Board, Senior Choir, Bureau of supply for the Missionaries, Statistician for the A.M.E. Zion Church Conference and former member of the Trustee Board. She also served on the Conference Level, District Level and Local Level. She also brought her son Rufus to Church every chance she could. Georgella was also a member of the Seniors Club at the Montbllo Recreation Center and enjoyed going on trips with the group to Nevada. She was an avid Denver Broncos and Denver Rockies fan and in her spare time loved to watch Judge Judy. The Family remembers when Georgella didn't receive a letter for her son Marshall when he was in the service and stationed in Germany, she called the Red Cross and had them track him down. She was also known for her baking skills, she would bake cakes from scratch that you just couldn't eat enough of. We will never forget her wonderful laugh and her kindness to everyone she knew, she was truly loved by everyone and will be sincerely missed. Mother Georgella Barner departed this life to be with the Lord on, June 23, 2016. Those left to mourn and cherish her memory include her five children, Barbara, Ruther, Marshall, Jennifer, all of Denver and Herbert, Little Rock, AR; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren; her brother, McKinley Johnson, Los Angeles, CA; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
