On December 3, 1961, George Charles, the II, joined the family of George Charles Sr. and Pearl DeAzona, in Denver, Colorado. He was the third born into a family of four children. Rosie Marie, Robert Earl and Michael Angelo, all had a special place in George's heart. Even though he was younger, George felt he was Rosie's boss and protector. He also challenged Robert at every opportunity to show himself worthy and as Michael's older brother, George became his teacher and defender. George defined his role in the family with determination and commitment.
George Charles II, also known as "Chubby" or "Georgie Porgy" was educated primarily in the Denver Public School system. He attended Gilpin Elementary, Sacred Heart, Cole Junior High and was a proud graduate of South High Schools class of 1978. While in high school George enjoyed playing basketball but more that basketball he loved to go fishing.
Hard work was what George did. He started working at Howard's Hardware, on Welton, when he was only 12 years old. Sweeping up and making deliveries, George proved himself to be reliable. He was promoted to manager by age 16, and he continued to work at Howard's Hardware until after he graduated from high school. He was always fascinated with how things worked, taking things apart and then reassembling them.
George Charles II had various career paths throughout his life. He was a great cook and alone with his mother, managed several restaurant kitchens together, including Cindy Lynn's. He was an outstanding Handyman, able to fix almost anything. He worked for Rocky Flats as an Asbestos Demotion and Abatement Specialist for 30 years. The exposure to asbestos over the years played a significant role in his declining health.
Family was priority to George Charles II. He was devoted to his mother as well as he played an important role in his nephew, Jalen's life as a role model and mentor. He was married to Terry in 1984. She had a daughter, Rachel who George adopted. Duston Red, the son of his second wife was also very close to George's heart. He enjoyed cooking for family gatherings and was always willing to share his wisdom, knowledge, and experience with young folks. He was a man of God, was a prayer warrior who attended Ebenezer Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. DeWayne Moore.
George Charles II was called home to Glory on March 31, 2020,after a lengthy illness. He is proceeded in death by his father, George Charles Sr., his brothers, Robert Earl Conner and Michael Angelo Anderson. Left to cherish his memory is his mother Pearl Mae Anderson, children Rachel, Dustin and Kendra Redd; his sister Rosie Marie (James) Kenny, Aunt Dorothy Moore, uncle Robert (Elizabeth) Weeams, nephew and best friend Jalen Charles Kenny, a host of other relatives and friends.
