Gary Lynn Flowers was born on September 12, 1954, in Lake Charles, Louisiana to his parents, Charles Lyndy Flowers and Lois Flowers. He had two siblings, Hasheem, and Linda. He was the youngest child. As a child, Gary attended Cure d'Ars, Loyola, and Regis High Schools. In 1973, he graduated from East High School. The highlight of his graduation was having his four month old daughter, Lynette, in attendance. Gary went on to attend the University of Colorado where he excelled in his education and graduated with two degrees, one in Business Management and the other in Political Science. Gary had many different occupations. With his gift of gab, Gary was a very successful salesman; he sold cars, appliances and stereo equipment. His favorite job was being a traveling salesman in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Gary also worked for United Air Lines and other companies. Gary met LaVerne when she attended Whittier Elementary School with his brother, Hasheem. They dated off and on through the years. During the 1990's, Gary and LaVerne renewed their friendship and fell in love. Memories Gary's Mother's favorite memory is that he weighed three pounds at birth. The doctors said he would grow to be six feet tall and he grew to be 6 feet 4 inches. One of her fondest memories was that he always crawled backwards. Lynette's favorite memory of her dad was that he tried to keep his promise to Uncle Doc by taking care of the family and bringing everyone together. Chalise's favorite memory of her dad was that he was a hard working good man. He taught her to read when she was little. Little Gary's favorite memory of his dad is his late night conversation with his dad where he would give him priceless information and advice that he will use for the rest of his life. John Roy's favorite memory of his dad was that he tried to teach him how to box. They broke things in the house during the boxing lesson.--The lights fell off the ceiling in the basement. Jocelyn's Roy's favorite memory of her dad was that he always told her he loved her and was proud to be her dad. Church Organization And Clubs While in Catholic School Gary was an altar boy. Gary said, "He had been baptized three times," but he confessed to Pastor Roberts, he was not sure he had accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Under the guidance of Pastor Roberts, Gary accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and gave his life to the Lord. Friends And Leisure Time Gary had such a deep love for his family especially his Mother and children. His Mother was his best friend and confidant. Gary never met a stranger. If he met you and liked you he was your friend for life. He had a great memory for people; he could tell you when and where he met you. He could also tell you who you were related to, where you went to school and who you dated. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and all of his advice on what you should or should not do because he had already been there and done that. He often advised people not to make the same mistakes he had made. He was very open, honest and outspoken. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He also had a love of music. He wanted to be a Disc Jockey, "DJ" but did not have the time to pursue that passion. If the music had a good beat or rhythm, he would listen to it. His favorite artist's ranged from Hall and Oats, Tower of Power, The Whispers, Kirk Franklin, and Fred Hammond. If he was riding in your car, he would change the music you were listening to and play the Whispers. He was truly one of a kind. He left an impression on everyone he met. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Charles Flowers; his grandmother, Frances Flowers; and his uncle, Robert Flowers. Gary Lynn Flowers departed this life on July 25, 2016, in Denver, Colorado.
