Frederick O'Day

March 29, 1956 — March 23, 2017

Frederick John O'Day, affectionately called "Tyrone," and later in life called, "Fred" by his family and friends, was born March 29, 1956, to the parents of Albert O'Day and Merlene Chaney. He had four brothers, Joseph, Charles, Harold, and Christopher; and two sisters, Maletta and Rochelle. As a young man, Frederick accepted the Lord as his personal Savior and King in his heart. In 1974, at the age 18, Frederick attended and graduated from David Starr Jordon High School in Watts, California. Shortly after graduating for high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. After serving in the military, Frederick became security detailed for the Late Bishop Robert W. McMurray of The Greater Bethany Community Church of the Apostolic Faith, in Los Angeles, California. Fred was also ordained a minister under of the leadership of Bishop McMurray. Once Frederick left California and moved to Colorado, he became a member of the Christ's Church Apostolic in Aurora, Colorado under the leadership of Pastor Almer Combs. He organized and trained the security detail for the Church and he provided Pastor Combs' personal security detail. Frederick graduated from the Reo Hondo Police Academy in Whitter, California and then became a Correctional Officer at the Terminal Island Facility in San Pedro, California. Later, he was employed as a Certified Public Accountant, CPA, for the Federal Bureau Investigation, FBI. Upon moving to Colorado, Frederick started his own Tax Service business in Glendale, Colorado; while operating in business, Frederick was a member of the Glendale Chambers of Commerce. Frederick never married nor did he have any children; but he loved all of his cousins, nieces and nephews as his own. Frederick enjoyed watching old movies, playing dominos, and was an avid chess player; he loved listening to Jazz, and his treasured Oakland Raiders. Fishing was his pass time; "Oh My God, did he ever love fishing!" Frederick's infectious smile will truly be missed. Frederick was preceded in death by his father, Albert O'Day; his brother, Joseph Sewell; and his godmother, Lillie (Cookie) Harris. Frederick was called back to God on the morning of Thursday, March 23, 2017, in Denver, Colorado. We loved him but God loves him best. Left to cherish his memories are his mother, Merlene Chaney of Lakewood, CO; stepfather, Ralph Barnes of Compton, CA; his sisters, Maletta Henderson of Houston, TX, Rochelle (Anthony) Hudson of Aurora, CO; his brothers, Charles (Dru) Brumfield of Spokane, WA, Harold Harris of Gardena, CA, and Christopher (Itzel) Harris of Atlanta, GA; his godfather, Clifford Harris, of Gardena, CA; his aunts, Shelia Fair of Los Angeles, CA, and Sharon Combs of Riverside, CA; his uncles, Ronald (Tudy) Chaney of Los Angeles, CA, George Chaney of Los Angeles, CA, and Charles Chaney of Denver Colorado; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
