Freddie Lee Leaks was born on August 2, 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri to his parents, Fred Carney and Geneva Ramsey -Smith. He was raised surrounded by his brothers, Adolph, Tony, Russell and his sisters, LaVerna, Jackie, Carmen, Shelia, and Jean. As a child, he loved playing baseball, basketball and running track. He loved having his own money and he often earned money shining shoes. He also enjoyed dancing and going to the movies. Freddie received his formal education in Denver, where he graduated from Manual High School. On September 30, 1960, he enlisted in the United States Army. He served with honor and distinction and was honorably discharged. Freddie united in holy matrimony to Zenobia Hatchett-Leaks in Denver, Colorado. To this union, four beautiful children, Shari, Felicia, Ester and Willie were born. With this union, a stepson, Darrell was added to the family. Freddie later married Betty Hughes and to this union, a son, Adrian and stepsons, Orlando and Michael joined the family. On Valentine's Day, February 14, 2000, Freddie wed the former Elaine Morris in Denver, CO and with this union, a stepdaughter, Tamisha was added to the family. He was a family man who enjoyed all the happy and precious moments shared and spent with his family. Freddie was later blessed with forty seven grandchildren; thirty seven great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren, who were an additional source of joy and pride in his life. The lovingly called him "PaPa" and fondly remember his smile and his positive personality. By profession, Freddie was a Truck Driver for Petty Bone Construction Company and a Line Cook for Furr's Cafeteria. He was a hard worker and very dedicated to his work. His positive attitude and demeanor was a strong influence on coworkers and admired by his employers. He was not a person who would meet the standards. He exceeded them. He retired from the Walmart Corporation after many years of faithful service. A man of faith and belief in the Lord, Freddie was a member of the Potter's House of Denver. He joined the church under the Pastoral leadership of Reverend Chris Hill. He enjoyed the wisdom and knowledge he was gaining as he studied the Bible and he enjoyed the fellowship shared with his church family. Freddie was a fun loving man who enjoyed life and those he encircled. In his free time, he enjoyed going to the movies, attending family reunions, visiting the dog tracks and spending quality time with family and friends. His wife, Elaine will miss his warm and jovial personality. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful man. To know Freddie was to love him. He is preceded in death by his father, Fred Carney; his mother, Geneva Ramsey-Smith; a brother, Adolph Leaks; a sister, Jean Carney and a grandson, Torian Leaks. Freddie Lee Leaks departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on November 10, 2014, in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include his wife, Elaine A. Morris-Leaks, Denver; 6 sons, Willie Leaks, Adrian T. Hughes, Michael Hughes, all Denver, Orlando (Tonya) Hughes, Pueblo, CO, Daryl L. Doyle, Denver and Stevie Taylor, St. Louis, MO; 4 daughters, Shari N. Leaks, Felecia Leaks, Ester G. Leaks all Denver, Tamisha M. Morris, Detroit, MI; 2 brothers, Anthony (Moncheire) Cowens, Denver and Russell Smith, Jr., Omaha, NE; 4 sisters, LaVerna Foster, Omaha, NE, Jacqueline DuBois-Collins, Denver, Carmen Phillips and Sheila Brown both Omaha, NE; 47 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and many friends.
