Fred Lee Holloman was born on December 19, 1931 to Leona and Charles Holloman in St. Louis Missouri. He was the third of nine children. Fred left school early to help support the family and worked as a laborer. Soon after, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed over in Korea during the Korean War. After he was discharged from the military, he went back home to St. Louis where he met Thelma Lee Price. On March 26, 1958, they were married. To this union two children were born, Hannah Leona and Arnethia Lotus. His daughters fondly remember their father being a hard worker and always there for family, no matter what. In spring of 1966, Fred moved his family to Denver, Colorado in search of a better life. He held a variety of positions, from waiter at the Denver Club to maintenance man with the former East Village Apartments. Fred's last job was custodian for United Airlines; there he became shop steward with the Service Employees International Union. He retired in 1995. Fred loved seeing and meeting people from all walks of life. He will be best remembered by those who knew him for his smile and genuinely warm greeting--as if just seeing you made him happy. The ability to greet people that way made Fred well-suited to be a part of the Men's Usher Board at Scott United Methodist Church, where he has been a member for over 40 years. During a season of Fred's life he participated in Prince Hall Masonry, rising to the level of 32nd degree. Fred may not have been afforded a formal education, but he liked to learn and share what he learned. Many family discussions would turn into lectures or deliberations on the deep things in life. If given the chance, we're quite sure Fred would have majored in philosophy. Fred and Thelma did everything together, including occasionally going to the "Hills." After Thelma passed away, he continued that tradition with Ms. Vertie, who was a dear friend to him. Fred enjoyed taking care of his parakeets, music, watching television and going to the movies. Westerns, suspense and action thrillers were his favorites. You could tell he was really engrossed in the show by seeing him hold his earlobe. If you happen to be sitting next to him while watching television, don't be surprised if he grabbed your earlobe too, most of the family can attest to this. Fred accepted the Lord many years ago, while there may have been times he strayed from the path, he always found his way back. With Fred being homebound in his later days, he looked forward to reading and discussing the bible and taking communion. Fred was preceded in death by his parents Leona and Charles Holloman; his brother, Allen Tate; sisters, Cleather Spinks, Johnnora Davis, Gladys Holloman; and his wife, Thelma Lee Holloman. Fred Lee Holloman departed this life to the embraced of the Lord on March 28, 2017. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Hannah (Marvin) Miles, Arnethia (Clint) Cavitt and step-daughter, Shirley Horne; four sisters, Charlean (Gene) Robinson, Larnell Holloman, Essie (Arlee) Crockett and Verda (Finas) Houston; eight grandchildren, Marvin (Melissa) Holloman, Damon (Lori) Horne, Cameron Miles, Matia (Isaiah) Lewis, Deviana (Adrien) Ramsey, Clint (Sarah) Cavitt, Jr., Marcus (Kristine) Cavitt and Matthew Cavitt; 11 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
