Franklin Spears

Franklin D. Spears was born on July 3, 1950, in Luling, Texas to his parents, Tommy Spears and Virginia Hurd. He was later blessed with a stepfather, Harrison Hurd, who was a mentor and great father figure in Franklin’s life. Franklin was the oldest of six children, Jeanette, Denise, Carolyn, Cathy, and Vernon.  Franklin was raised by his loving aunt, Dobie and uncle, Lee Arthur.

Franklin received is primary education in Luling, TX.  By profession, he worked in construction for many years.

Franklin met and married Phyllis Davine Chambers in Texas. They began building the union with two beautiful children, Alicia Francine Spears, and Nekeeba Jamal Cargill. Franklin was also blessed with three grandchildren, Brittany Semaj Johnson, Kaylen Alicya Shaw, and Keahi Cargill.

In Franklin’s free time, he loved to cook and was in the process with writing a cookbook. His passion was writing poetry.

Though his health started declining and taking a toll on his life, he never gave up until his last breath. God called Franklin Spears home on March 30, 2021. He preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Hurd; his father, Tommy Spears; stepfather, Harrison Hurd; and his beloved sister Cathy; his aunt, Dobie; and his uncle, Lee Arthur.  You all will truly be missed.

Franklin leaves to cherish his memory to his wife, Phyllis; his son, Nakeeba Cargill; his daughter, Alicia Spears; his three grandchildren, Brittany Semaj Johnson, Kaylen Alicya Shaw, and Keahi Cargill; his brother, Vernon, his sister, Jeanette (Curtis Webber), Carolyn Day, and Denise Hurd; and a host of friends and relatives.
