First Porter

"Hide the Word: The Early Years" Psalms 27:4 "One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple. Rosemary Henderson-Porter was born in Denver, Colorado on April 22, 1947 to parents, Mother Lori Talley and John Lee Henderson. She was the 6th child of 8 Children and second daughter of Mother Lori Talley. She was surrounded by the love of her brothers and sister: James Curtis "J.C.", Curtis, Norwood, John, and Sallie in the City of Denver. Rose was affectionately called, "Rose" by family. Her sister, Sallie, often referred to Rose as being the "Best big sister, a little sister could ever have." Rose began learning about the Love of Jesus Christ at an early age. The Word of God was planted in her heart while attending various Vacation Bible School and Sunday School sessions. Rose developed a sensitivity to God, thus beginning her spiritual journey and shaping her Destiny. As a child, Rose enjoyed singing, playing the piano, listening to Motown Records, running track, dancing and spending time with family. She often assisted her mother by preparing meals for the family catering business. She learned the art of making good "Old Hot Tamales." To family, Rose prepared some of the best "Hot Soul Tamales" in Denver! Rose was often referred to as being "Very Smart" by her mother. She had a creative and intuitive mind and enjoyed making something out of nothing. Rose received her formal education in the Denver School District, and Graduated from Manual High School in 1965. She enrolled in the first class at Metropolitan State College in 1965. She continued her Vocational Training by receiving a Certified Nursing Certificate. In the summer of 1966, Rose realized her need for Christ and surrendered her life to Him at Bethel Church of God in Christ. That same year, she met and married the Love of her Life, Russell M. Porter, Sr. and to this union, they had two boys, Russell, and Reginald and two girls, Rochelle and Rhonda. The young couple, Rose and Russ, attended church on a regular basis. Rose taught her four children the importance of memorizing scripture at an early age. The "RMP" (The family initials) family learned the importance of worship and praise by singing and playing gospel music daily. Rose was truly committed to "Hiding the Word of God" in her heart. "A Servant Leader" Matthew 25:23 "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness! By Profession, Rose worked in various hospitals in the Denver area utilizing her gift of helping and sharing with others. She served as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Childcare Owner, Administrator with Samsonite and Denver Housing Authority, Kamsey Events Center Manager, Assistant Pastor and Vice President of Christian Corps International Inc. Although she enjoyed working in secular industries, she amassed her time in Christian service by serving the most vulnerable and marginalized communities. In 1966, she became a member of the West Denver Church of God in Christ family under the leadership of Bishop Phillip H. Porter and Mother Edgar Lee Porter. Rose served in this ministry for seventeen years as a teacher, administrator, Sunday School and Y.P.W.W. leader. Rose found her true passion and destiny by serving side by side in Ministry with her husband Dr. Russ Porter, Sr. In 1978, her call to ministry was elevated when she began ministering to young people on the University Northern Colorado Greeley campus. Partnering with her husband, they organized weekly Church services and Bible Study sessions for college students and many surrendered their live to the Lord. A woman of faith and belief, Rose became the First Lady of Here's Love Christian Fellowship in 1981. Lady Rose deeply enveloped herself in Ministry as a Matthew 25 woman. "A Servant- Leader," she organized the Manna Ministries at Here's Love and supported Christian Haitian Outreach Orphanage. She organized many fund-raising events for the Christian Haitian Outreach ministry and traveled to Haiti to serve in the Orphanage alongside Mother Elenore Workman on many occasions. Lady Rose served as Administrator for various ministries with Christian Corps International Inc. Many include, Coordinator for Community Youth Corps Programs; Director of Christian Education; Faithful Choir Member; Director of the Children's and Women's Ministries; Food & Clothing Bank Coordinator and Administrator for the "Whiz Kids" tutorial program at Here's Love. Most importantly, Rose was an affectionate teacher and enjoyed giving 100% when serving others. She was truly a Servant Leader. Rose loved serving in the Church, she had no problem taking off her "Choir Robe" and ministering to the common man which included youth and children in the Inner-city communities of Denver. Rose truly had a heart for children, her life motto was: "Rose for Kids". In addition to church services, Rose served in various Para-Church organizations and ministries. She diligently worked with the Sister to Sister Interdenominational Ministry Conference; Denver International Association of Ministers Wives and Minister Widows Inc., and served as Administrator of the Little Village Childcare Facility & Montview Academy Charter School. Although Rose enjoyed serving the Church, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. "Granny", as she was so lovingly call, was truly a good friend, mentor and confidant to her family. She taught her children the importance of loving God by demonstrating true Servanthood. "A Better Place" John 14: 1-4 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. First Lady Rose Porter departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on November 24, 2016 in Aurora, Colorado. She is preceded in death by her mother, Mother Lorie Talley; Father John Lee Henderson; Brother John Lee Henderson; Curtis Germany; Norwood Germany; James W. Germany; James Curtis Germany and Mary Grace Germany. Those left to Cherish her memory and morn her loss includes her loving and devoted husband, Dr. Russell Porter Sr. of 50 years; children, Russell (Shantell) Porter Jr.; Rochelle Porter; Rhonda(Darnell) Hubbart; Reginald Porter; sister, Minister Sallie Mae (Chuck) Beauman; 8 grandchildren Britnay (Aaron) Talley; Tyre Mckay; Joshua Carter; Reginald Porter Jr; Lanise Hopkins; Ashanae Hopkins; Jacole Hopkins; Bianca (Joe) Hill; 12 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, many friends and the Christian Corps International Church Family. From Lady Rose: Dear Saints and Friends, As I write this letter of Gratitude, I am in Awe of How Good God has Been! I would like to extend a sincere "Thank You" to all friends I have met through Ministry locally and otherwise. I am grateful for the prayers and deep concern for me and my family during our struggle these past few years. I am most appreciative to my Husband Pastor Russ and my Children and Grandchildren for their continually Support. I am Grateful for the Lessons Learned and Thankful for being a part of your Lives.
