Felton Cornell Johnson was born on October 29, 1951. in Port Gibson, Mississippi. He was raised with considerable attention to the love of God and the blessings of love for family by his dad and mom, Walter and Beatrice Johnson. The same year of his birth, the family relocated to Denver, CO where Felton was educated not only in the Denver School System, but also at New Hope Baptist Church. Felton graduated from Denver’s East High School in 1969, where he achieved world class “All Around” Gymnast recognition and was actively recruited by both Denver University and Arizona State, not only for academics, but indeed full development for the 1972 Olympics Gymnastic Team in Munich Germany. At that time, it was a milestone in history, because no Black Male Gymnast in the nation had reached his prominence. Those indelible achievements are currently show cased in the lobby of East High as well as induction into the East High Athletic Hall of Fame. In early 1971, a rather serious Rotator Cuff injury would abruptly end the dream of the Munich Games, but Felton could not be stopped and later realized the enormous opportunities in Silicon Valley, eventually relocating to Santa Clara, California. There he landed several Management positions. Felton innately exceled with his Silicon Valley expertise and education; building computers and developing advanced applications seen in today’s PC’s and Smart Technologies. After retirement from Kimball Clark Design, he relocated to LaGrange Oregon where life was full of nature and outdoor activity and as he put it, “A peaceful corner of God’s good earth and a closer place to walk and talk with Him.” Felton was the proud father of Monir Wood, and always reminded the family how God had smiled on him! To prove it, he would quote Proverbs 23:24 - The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; he who fathers a wise son will be glad in him. He was indeed very glad in Monir. The sport of auto racing was a great passion with Felton and he even managed to race a few times at Continental Divide Raceway with his 1970 Corvette-LT1. It was very fast and beautiful! Felton Cornell Johnson, affectionally called “Shorty George” (a name of honor given to him by his dad, for he looked much like his Grandpa George Johnson) departed this life with the embracement of God’s tender, love and mercy on February 27, 2018, in LaGrange, Oregon. Those left to cherish his memory and rejoice his home going include, his son, Monir Wood; his brother, Walter (Sarah) Johnson): his sisters, Vera Pichon and Barbara Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
