Fareed D. Al'Jabaar was born on August 26, 1956, in Austin, Texas to his parents, Mary Louise Maxwell Dotson and Herman Dotson. He was the third child born in the family. He had five brothers, Charles, Barry, Andre, Michael, Gary and her sisters, Jewell and Ruthie. He received his early education by attending Allen Jr. High School, where he was a member of the marching band. He also attended McCallum High School, where he was a member of the track team. He won numerous awards for his athletic ability. He furthered his education by attending Arapahoe Community College in Littleton, Colorado. On January 19, 1976, Fareed enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Korea. It was during this time that Fareed was exposed to toxins that would have a debilitating effect on him for the rest of his life. He was honorably discharged from the Army. Fareed met Delois Hodges in Denver in 1980. To this union, a beautiful baby girl named, Najela Mari-An Hodges was born. Najela remembers her father as always wanting the best. He was later blessed a grandchild, named Najeer. He fondly called him "PaPa" and remembers the special moments they shared together. Fareed accepted the Lord as his personal savior at a very early age and was baptized by Reverend S.A. Davis in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Austin, Texas. He was a member of the Angel Choir. Fareed was employed as a Printer for The Denver Mint for over ten years. He was a fun loving man, who enjoyed life and those he encircled. He loved wearing Cowboy Hats and Shoes. He had quite a collection. He and his mother had a special bond; she will cherish the happy and memorable moments they shared together. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful man. To know Fareed was to love. Fareed D. Al'Jabaar departed this life on July 4, 2015, in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish him memory include his daughter, Najela (Lamonte) Hodges; his mother, Mary L. Overton; 5 brothers, Charles R. Shabaaz, Barry L. (Anita) Overton, all of Denver, Colorado, Andre Carter, Michael Easley, Gary Dotson; 2 sisters, Jewell Walker all of Austin, Texas and Ruthie Z. Najieb of Tampa, FL; 1 grandson, Najeer Gavin Clair of Denver; his aunt and uncle, Robbie Overton and Freddie Maxwell both of Austin, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and many friends.
