Evelyn Anita Meadows was born on July 1, 1931, in Oakley, Kansas to her parents, Juanita Vera Howard and Lloyd Wellington. She was the first born in the family. She was raised surrounded by her brother, Charles and her sisters, Darlene and Barbara. She received her formal education in Denver and graduated from Manual High School. In August of 1950, she married Ira Curtis Meadows. To this union, Myra and Vera were born. Ira preceded her in death in 1980. Evelyn was blessed with four grandchildren, Thornton Conrad, Chonita, Nichole and Allen Troy. She later became the great grandmother of 22 and the great great grandmother of five. The love of family was important to her and they all shared many happy and precious moments together. Evelyn was employed for a number of years with the C.U. Medical Center but the care and nurture of her family was most important. A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Evelyn was a member of Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church where she was a treasured member of the choir. She had been a member for over 50 years. Some of her civic affiliations include being a member of Syrian Court #40, Daughter of Isis, serving as the Illustrious Commadress and a member of the Order of Eastern Star, PHA. In her free time, Evelyn enjoyed sewing, knitting, shopping, working in her yard and caring for her grandchildren. As the matriarch of the family, she was the rock and foundation. Her doors were open to everyone. She was a woman who never met a stranger. To know Evelyn was to love her.
