Eva Louise Harris was born on July 19, 1936, in Memphis, Tennessee to her parents, Fred Branch and Sally M. Stevenson Hughes. She was the second child born in the family. She was raised surrounded by her brothers, James, Leonard, Fred, and Robert. She received her formal education in Memphis, where she graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Memphis. While in high school, she was a Cheerleader. On January 4, 1956, Eva united in holy matrimony to Marvin Harris, Jr. They exchanged vows at the Justice of Peace in Hernando, Mississippi. Marvin fondly remembers that he would pick her up from school and drive across the state line. To this union, a son, Morris A. Harris was born. Eva and Morris were able to travel the world along with Marvin, as he served his country in the United States Air Force. While in England, Eva was a Cheerleader for the Air Force Football Team. Eva was later blessed with four grandchildren, Chinica, Morris, Marcia, Maria and two great grandchildren, Mikya and Lenice, who all were an additional source of joy and pride in her life. They lovingly called her "Grammy" and fondly remember all the happy and precious moments they shared together. Eva's six-year-old granddaughter admired her so much, until she gave herself the nickname, "Little Eva." By profession, Eva was employed in retail sales. She worked for the Military Base Exchange, Sears & Roebuck Company and Lerner's Shops. Wherever she worked, Eva was hard-working, dedicated and performed her duties with a spirit of excellence. She worked well with her co-workers and was respected by her supervisors. She truly enjoyed helping her customers with selections and purchases. A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Eva has been a faithful and dedicated member of Mississippi Avenue Baptist Church in Aurora, Colorado. She served as a member of the Christian Woman's Club and the Garden Club. She has been a member of the church for over 36 years. Her church family will miss "The lady who wore a hat." She truly enjoyed the fellowship with her church family and wisdom and knowledge she gained as studied the Bible. Eva was a fun-loving woman, who enjoyed life and those she encircled. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking and hosting barbeques for family and friends. She never liked to travel alone until 1980 when she entered contest and won a trip to Hawaii. In 1982, Eva took that trip alone. She is also remembered as preparing lunch daily for the Principal at Booker T. Washington High School in Memphis. Her closest friends, Marian Nolan, George Crawley, Eula Credell and Linda Barber, will miss the camaraderie they all shared together. They will also miss her smile and jovial personality. She will be missed by all were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful woman. To know Eva was to love her. She is preceded in death by her son, Morris A. Harris, Sr.; her parents, Fred Branch and Sally M. Hughes; three brothers, James E. Hughes, Leonard C. Hughes, and Fred Branch, Jr. Eva Louise Harris departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on August 21, 2016, in Aurora, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include her loving and devoted husband of over 60 years, Marvin Harris, Jr. of Denver, Colorado; a brother, Robert (LaMargo) Branch, Sr. of Providence, Texas; 4 grandchildren, Chinica M. Hernandez of Aurora, Colorado, Morris A. Harris, Jr., Marcia D. Harris both of Memphis, Tennessee and Maria D. (Barry) Johnson of Oak Grove, Kentucky; 2 great grandchildren, Mikya Johnson of Oak Grove, Kentucky and Lenice Hernandez of Aurora, Colorado; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
