Ethel Carter

August 10, 1937 — March 6, 2017

Ethel L. Carter was born in Monroe Louisiana on August 10, 1930 to Parents Winnie and Charlie Starks, Sr. She was the 7th of 10 children born to this union with six brothers, Charlie Jr. Isiah, Thomas, Andrew, Manuel and Herbert and three sisters, Ida, Letha, and Nancy. Ethel moved to Denver around 1956 and worked for many years as a Nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital and later for Continental Airlines and St. Vincent De Paul. Ethel was a member of St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church and later a member of Cure d' Ars Catholic Church in Park Hill. Caring for family and friends was Ethel's greatest joy and her home was always opened as a place of refuge for anyone in need. She loved talking and going places with her friends. She and Lola had a standing reservation at Red Lobster each year for their birthdays. She was a proud and loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. Her children called her Mama, and Mommy, the Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren called her "Nan Na" and "Grandma"; they were the loves of her life. She loved laughing, talking and watching all sports, but her favorite was "Football", the Denver Bronco's was her Team and Peyton Manning her favorite player. Ethel was kind and compassionate to the needs of others. She was quick to tell you what she thought or felt, but she was always fair in her assessment of others. Her caregivers loved her and always told her how pleasant she was to work for. No matter how she felt, she had a winning smile and a kind word. She was preceded in death by her parents, Winnie and Charlie Starks Sr., Brothers Charlie Jr., Isiah, Thomas, Andrew, Manuel, and Sisters Ida, Leatha and Nancy and her youngest son Samuel Carter Jr. Ethel was called home to glory Monday, March 6, 2017. Left to cherish her memory is her Brother Herbert Starks (Herbert Jr., Kimberly, and Montrell), Son Charles of Monroe La., Daughters Jo Harrison (Lonnie) of Houston TX and Theresa Carter of Denver Co. Grandchildren, Charles Jr., Desmond, Winnie, An-tiquel, Ashley, Lowell, Kyla, Julian, Lia, Michael, Ter-rance, Theresa, Taviyawn and 15 Great Grandchildren. Lastly but not least her best friends, Lola Walton, Ellen Barnes , Pearl Hughes , Christine Long and Verda Allison.
