Emmett Lee James was born September 28, 1959, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was the second born child of John L. James, Sr. and Mary E. Blanchard James. Emmett gave his life to Christ at the young age of seven years old and was baptized at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. As a child, Emmett was always very protective of his family especially his two sisters, Beatrice, and Marie. He also loved and protected his younger brothers, John, Jr., Floyd, and Edward. Emmett attended Manual and East High Schools. He loved to play sports in high school. Family and friends knew him as and affectionately called him "Lee." In recent years, Emmett returned to college to further his education attending Community College of Denver. Emmett "Lee" was the proud father of three children, Terrance, Angel, and Brian. He was later blessed with 10 beautiful grandchildren that he absolutely adored and cherished. Many times along the path of Emmett's life, he was faced with many of life challenges, but he made it a point to turn it around for his grandkids and to spend as much time as he could with them. They were his pride and joy. In Emmett's later years, he and his son, Terrance, Sr. became very close, almost inseparable. Not only could the family see it, but everyone else could too. These were some of Emmett's happiest times. Emmett also had a very strong and loving relationship with his mother, Mary. The two of them had an extraordinary bond that most people never will or have experienced. No matter what happened in life or what was going on they remained connected. "Lee" would call her every day and every night to say, "I love you Mom." Despite the rough exterior, he had one of the biggest hearts in the world. His love for his family ran deep and everyone recognized that love; even when he was away, he always called to check on them to make sure they were okay. Emmett's passion in life was spending time with his family and those that he loved. He spent most of his free time with his family enjoying his hobbies to include going fishing, taking the kids to the park, having cookouts and most of all playing cards (Spades and Bid Whiz). We will celebrate the blessed and joyous times, as well as the hard and troublesome times in his life. The ins and outs, the good and the bad, but mainly the time he remembered that he was a child of God and tried to change his life! Emmett Lee James departed this life on December 14, 2014, in Denver, Colorado. He leaves to cherish his memory and to mourn his loss his mother, Mary E.
