Ellawese Simpson

December 27, 1928 — August 12, 2018

Ellawese Simpson was born on December 27, 1928, in Ladonia, Texas to her parents, Mack McKinley and Lilly Mae Smith McKinley. She received her formal education while residing in Ladonia, Texas. In 1946, she became the proud mother of a son, she named Leslie B. Henson. Ellawese met Charlie M. Simpson in Paris, Texas. They were united in holy matrimony in 1949. To this union, six sons, Charles, Walter, Rodney, Bevelee, Kerry, Barry, and five daughters, Joan, Gwendolyn, Vera, Ellawese, and Brenda were born. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. The family remembers her putting her life on the line to save her children during a house fire. She was able to get all her children out of harm’s way with the exception of a daughter, Brenda who succumbed in the fire. The fire was so intense, “The Paris News” hailed Ellawese for her act of heroism putting out the fire and saving her children. The family relocated to Denver, Colorado, while her husband, Charles was stationed at Fitz Simmons Army Post in the United States Army. Charles preceded her in death in 1971, due to an Auto/Pedestrian accident in Texas. She now became mother and father to her children who remember her as being sweet, kind, and a mother whose top priority was the care and nurture of her family. She was very protective of her children; they shared many happy and memorable moments together. She was a great cook and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Ellawese loved attending worship servicee with her daughters at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Pastor David King. She believed in the power of prayer and that everyone needed to have the right relationship with the Lord. She was recently given the title as Mother of the Church. Ellawese was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Wallace Simpson American Legion Post #28. She has served as Vice President and Secretary of the organization. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful woman. To know Ellawese was to love her. Ellawese Simpson departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on August 12, 2018, in Denver, Colorado at the age of 89. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss included 7 sons, Leslie B. Henson, Charles E. Simpson, Walter L. Simpson, Rodney D. Simpson, Bevelee Simpson, Kerry L. Simpson, and Barry J. (Tracy) Simpson all of Denver, Colorado; 4 daughters, Joan F.
