Ellana Marie DeLoach was born in Arkansas City, Kansas on October 29th, 1954 to parents Reverend William F. DeLoach and Doreatha DeLoach. She grew up in a loving home where she shared a memorable childhood with her older brother, Michael A. Givens, and younger sister Beverly Diane DeLoach-Duckett.
Ellana attended Francis Willard Elementary, Ark City Junior High, and Ark City High School. She worshipped at Pilgrim Rest Baptist church – where her father was pastor. As a "preacher's daughter", she was raised attending bible studies, singing in the choir and many other church activities from a very young age. Soon after completing high school, Ellana met Timothy Vaughn, and bore her three children; Tegitra J'Von DeLoach, Shannon Terell DeLoach, and Radonda Jazelle DeLoach. In 1978, Ellana moved her family to Denver, Colorado where she earned her Certified Nursing Assistant License from Emily Griffith. She made a living as a CNA and healthcare professional for the next 20 years.
Ellana loved spending quality time with her family more than anything in the world. She liked taking her grandkids on little day-time adventures and having philosophical conversations with her adult children, but, in recent years, hosting the family for the holidays was by far her favorite thing. Classic rock was her preferred music. She was also an avid reader, history buff, and please, don't let her get started with politics! Her family and friends also knew how fun-loving and silly she could be. Whether she was re-mixing popular songs by adding her own lyrics, making her best attempt at the latest dance moves, or uncontrollably laughing at her own jokes, she would make you smile.
One of the most cherished memories for her children will be cooking with "momma". Those special days when she would wake them up in the middle of the night to keep her company while she prepared holiday meals. Remembering the way she would say, "Stir that", "Taste this", and, inevitably, "Okay, now ya'll gettin' in my way." Thinking about those days will bring joy to her children for the rest of their lives.
Ellana was not a wealthy woman, yet, she will be most remembered for her extraordinary generosity. Her door was always open. You may be on the floor or the couch, but, if you knew "Lana", you had a home. She was generous with her precious time as well - genuinely putting others well-being before her own. And most of all, she was generous with her love. And that is why so many loved her. A friend, Mary Buckley, said it simply, "[Lana] was one of the best people on the planet."
Ellana is preceded in death by her parents, Reverend William F. DeLoach and Doreatha DeLoach.
God called Ellana home on June 14th, 2019. Her children and life-long friend, Muneeb Mian, were by her side. Those left to cherish her memories include her brother, Michael A. Givens; sister, Beverly Diane (Danny) DeLoach-Duckett; sons, Tegitra J'Von DeLoach and Shannon Terell DeLoach; daughter, Radonda Jazelle DeLoach; nephew, Brandon Kyce DeLoach; six grandchildren; Taryn Simone DeLoach, Dontae Malik DeLoach, Kylese Antoinette DeLoach-Walker, Dallon Kerris DeLoach, Kira Antoinese DeLoach-Walker and Kacin William DeLoach; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
