Elder Navy

March 31, 1931 — June 2, 2017

Clars David Boyd The sun rose on the life of Clars David Boyd, born March 31, 1931 in Frederick, Oklahoma. He was the fifth of fourteen children born to the union of Maggie E. and Judge Bishop Boyd. He had 7 brothers: Arthur Leon, James Nilon, Orin Hayes, Robert Eugene, Richard Earl, Jerry Allison and Edgar Nevan Boyd; and 6 sisters: Ethel Marie, Elsie Sedalia, Cordelia Lenabelle, Harriet Janice, Bonnie Ruth and Dorothy. It was not easy growing up poor, but Clars was resourceful and made due with what he had. He attended and completed grade school, junior high and some high school in Frederick, Oklahoma. In 1940, the family moved to Colorado and Clars attended and graduated from Manual High School in Denver. When he became a teenager, he didn't see a real future shining shoes and washing dishes, so at age 17, he asked his Papa to sign for him to join the US Navy. Papa did that for his son and Clars went off to the Navy to serve his country. He traveled to and from many ports both local and abroad. He was a Navy man and served during the Korean War in 1951 and in Rio De Janeiro protecting President Vargas. He also served during the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Embargo. Clars has also been to the Mediterranean Sea, Turkey, Greece and Pakistan. He served under much discrimination, but completed more than 21 years in the Navy. He was always proud of those years, becoming a man, being a sailor and above all being JB Boyd's son. Clars retired from the Navy and was honorably discharged. Following his Navy retirement, Clars worked for Target Stores and then he worked for the US Postal Service, from which he retired once again. Clars met and married the love of his life Juanita Elaine Brothers (who affectionately called him David) and when she passed in 2014, they had been married 63 years. Clars and Juanita lived in lots of different places. Except for the times when he was away at sea, they were always together. Clars accepted the Lord Jesus Christ and received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost. In 1974, Clars was ordained an Elder and was a faithful member and Brother at the Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ under the ministry of Elder Arthur Leon Boyd. He had to leave to take care of his wife when she became ill, but he never withdrew his financial support from the church. He for years cut the grass and shoveled the snow. Although he couldn't be at church, he continued to order the books and studied his Sunday School lesson until shortly before his passing. Mr. Boyd, as most everybody who knew him knows, loved to go to the thrift stores, hardware stores, and car part stores to keep the many cars he had running. He collected things, some believe everything and if you were looking for something, Clars probably had one or perhaps even three. He loved to make delicious fudge, watch old movies from VHS tapes and he liked to fix almost anything. He was one of the most freehearted persons you would ever want to meet. He was stubborn and opinionated, but kind and loving. He would show up at various family members home with his famous fudge and $100 or more just because. He was almost always willing to contribute. Elder Boyd never failed to witness to those who visited him and was bold enough to ask, "Do you know the Lord". He believed that the Bible is the only truth; it teaches you how to live and love others. "Love is a belief by faith, and by faith alone. God is the love that motivates us. Elder Boyd was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Elaine Boyd, his parents, Mother Maggie E. and Elder Judge Bishop (JB) Boyd, Jr.; 5 brothers: Elder Arthur Leon Boyd, James, Elder Orin H. Boyd, Sr., Reverend Robert E. and Richard Earl Boyd; 3 sisters: Ethel Marie Beasley, Elsie Chandler and Bonnie Ruth Mason. Clars was summoned home to rest, on the morning train to Glory, June 2, 2017. He leaves to cherish his memory, 2 brothers, Jerry (Veronica) Boyd of Aurora, Colorado and Edgar Boyd of Denver, Colorado; 3 sisters: Cordelia (Otis) Revels of Highland, California, Harriet (Jan) Avery of Sacramento, California and Dorothy (Richard) Jones of Aurora, Colorado. He has one aunt, Shirley Bean of Denver, Colorado, many other relatives and friends. "He left his mark."
