Elder Lee Johnson, Sr. was the youngest son of the late Alma Cheatham Johnson and Albert Johnson. He was born on May 4, 1935, in Alexandria, Louisiana. He was raised surrounded by eleven brothers and sisters. Lee received his early education by attending the public school system in Alexandria. In 1956, Lee united in holy matrimony to the former Lucille Mae Christian. To this union, seven children were born. Lee enlisted in the United States Army, after his discharge, he relocated to Denver, Colorado in May of 1967. He worked various jobs. His most tenured position was with Ralston Purina in Denver. He was always thankful to Minister Verlando Hines for introducing him to one of the Supervisors. He is remembered as being hard-working and an excellent employee. He retired in March of 1997, after over twenty six years of faithful and dedicated service. Elder Johnson was blessed with fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren whom he loved and cherished the special moments spent together. He taught his children and grandchildren that family always helps each other. He led by example for he was caring, giving, ready to listen and he didn't mind lifting his family in prayer. Elder Johnson's love for Gospel music prompted him to enroll several of his grandchildren to learn music professionally at "Wells Music." Lee dearly enjoyed his family, friends, and his beloved church family. He loved to laugh, go fishing, bake chocolate cakes and his most famous and delicious cornbread. Elder Johnson accepted his call into the ministry and became an ordained Minister under the guidance of Superintendent William Harris at Gethsemane Trinity Temple. He served his church and the Lord for over forty seven years. Elder Johnson was man of faith and believed and trusted in the word of God. He was a dedicated soldier in the Army of the Lord. He was a faithful choir member, a loyal Sunday School Teacher and was always willing to support other Christian activities within the church. To know Elder Johnson was to love him. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Johnson; 2 sons, Lee Johnson, Jr. and Albert Johnson; his parents, and all his siblings, and a grandson, Tarence L. Hardy. On November 26, 2015, an Angel came and escorted Elder Lee Johnson, Sr. to enjoy the fullness of joy in the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ, who welcomed him into his new Heavenly home. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include 2 daughters, Brenda R. (Warren) Sturdivant of Aurora and Michelle M. Todd of Birmingham, AL; 3 sons, Larry (Donnette) Johnson of Aurora, Kenneth D. Johnson and Benjamin Johnson all of Denver; 13 grandchildren, Sonia, Tiffany, Lee, Kevin, Anthony, Aaron, Brooke, Katurah, Londyn, Solomon, Dailaya, Ashley and 6 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and many friends.
