Effie Linda Taylor was born on March 1, 1917 in Lee County Mississippi, the second of three siblings, to Leroy Taylor and Janu Mae Taylor. Her older sister was Valeria Taylor and her younger brother was Leroy Bobby Taylor, both of whom are now deceased. Early on, the family migrated from Mississippi, where there was very little work, to Des Moines, Iowa where work was more plentiful. Her father subsequently gained employment at one of the many packing plants in the local area. However, due to her father's early death, the family was forced to move to St. Louis, Missouri where her mother continued to raise the family as a single parent. In 1935, Miss Taylor graduated from Sumner High School in St. Louis, Missouri. Following graduation, she began working while at the same time also taking some college courses from Stowes Teachers College located in the area. During that period, she met and married Oran F. Williams. From this union, two sons, Donald F. Williams (Deceased) and Stanley L. Williams were born. Unfortunately that union did not last very long and the now family of three needed to find a way to survive in a single parent household. In 1950, she, along with the family, made a job related move to Denver, Colorado where she almost immediately became a member of Cleaves Memorial CME Church. Thus began a long and dedicated period of service to the church and the greater Denver community. In April 1964, she married W. L. Hunter. They enjoyed 46 years of marriage until the untimely passing of Mr. Hunter in April 2010. During the time of her marriage, Effie was employed by the Air Force Accounting and Finance Center as a Claims Examiner. In December 1974, a ceremony was held awarding her the "Certificate of Service" in recognition of 30 years of faithful service to the Department of the Air Force. She officially retired in December 1982. Following her retirement, Effie became heavily involved in volunteering. She volunteered as a teacher at Smiley Junior High in Denver. After the Hunters relocated their residence from Denver to Aurora, she began volunteering her teaching services in the Aurora Public Schools. Later, she volunteered her talents to the Aurora Medical Center. She spoke of the activities often and with joy in her heart, as she genuinely enjoyed helping the less fortunate among us. During the period of Effie's marvelous life, which came to an end in the early morning hours of Monday, April 27, 2015, in Aurora, Colorado; she distinguished herself in many ways. • Dedicated employee for the US Air Force for over 35 years • Faithful member of Cleaves CME for 60 plus years • Served on Usher Board and Missionary Society • Sunday School Teacher • Bible scholar and Christian Orator • Volunteer to Denver and Aurora Public Schools • Volunteer to Aurora Medical Center Effie was a wonderful, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. Effie Linda Hunter leaves a legacy of service to God, family, church, friends and others. Her memory will live on through her son, Stanley L. Williams; daughter, Mary Katherine Hunter; grandchildren, Anthony D. Williams, Bambi R. Williams, Jason Williams, Kimberly Hunter and William Amon White; nieces, Jyll (Otis) Reed, Sheri (Craig) Miller, and a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She will also be sorely missed by her Cleaves and St. Luke CME church family and the many friends she has made over her 98 years of living.
