Edsel Elias Bolden was born December 1st, 1935 in Denver, Colorado to the late Earl and Dora Bolden. He was the fifth child of seven children. He attended Whittier Elementary School, Morey Junior High School, and Manuel High School in the Denver Public School system. Edsel was a wrestler and ran track while in high school. Edsel graduated from Manuel High School in 1954.
Shortly after graduating from high school, Edsel joined the army. He was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division stationed in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Edsel served in the military from 1954 to 1957 when he was honorably discharged.
After returning from military service, Edsel began his career with the U.S. Postal Service.
He worked as a postal clerk and mail carrier until his retirement in 1990. Also, when he returned home from the military, Edsel married Lynnell Stafford on July 3rd, 1958. This union produced two children, Lavonne Price and Lawrence Bolden. Eventually, Edsel and Lynnell grew apart and divorced.
During Edsel's next phase of life, he met and married Gwendolyn Richie on September 16th, 1977. They remained together for the next 43 years until Edsel's death on May 21st, 2021.
During their time together, they enjoyed traveling together within the United States and to other countries. They enjoyed barbecues and parties with family and friends. Edsel also enjoyed hunting and fishing during his free time.
Edsel is survived by his wife Gwendolyn Bolden, his daughter Lavonne Price, his grandchildren Francesca and Wesley Price, his great granddaughter Paeyton Jackson, and his brother Nathan Bolden (Corlissa). He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
Edsel is preceded in death by his son Lawrence Bolden, his brother Johnnie Bolden and four sisters Earlene Motley, AdaMarie Hunn, Juanita Johnson, and Yvonne Glover.
