Eddie Jackson, Jr.

Eddie Jackson, Jr. was born on May 16, 1930, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to his parents, Eddie Jackson, Sr. and Mary Lee Whiteside Jackson. He was the first of seven children born in the family. He was raised surrounded by his brother, Stanley and his sister, Linda. As a child, he loved hiding under the family home. He shared a special closeness with his mother and loved working so that he had money of his own. Eddie received his formal education in Oklahoma, where he graduated from Douglas High School. He furthered his education by attending Blackwood Business College. On September 10, 1948, he enlisted in the United States Army. While serving his country, Eddie earned a Purple Heart Medal after suffering a gunshot wound while stationed in South Korea. He earned other awards and citation while in the Army. He was honorably discharged in 1951. Eddie reenlisted in the United States Air Force. While serving in the Air Force, he earned many medals and accommodations for his meritorious service. He ultimately retired on September 9, 1968, at the rank of a Master Sergeant (E7). On June 28, 2003, Eddie united in holy matrimony to the former LaVerna J. Wheeler in Denver, Colorado where they first met. "Verna" fondly reflects that they were as one. His love for her was unconditional and non-wavering. They shared many happy and precious moments together. Eddie was the proud father of a daughter, named Gina and the step father of Eddie and Martin. He was also the proud grandfather of Kaiecia, Janeal, Jordan. They remember him as taking them to buy ice cream and he playing with them. Eddie was employed as a Security Guard. He worked in this industry for over fifteen years. His co-workers and employers remember him as hardworking, dedicated and dependable. He performed his duties with a spirit of excellence. Eddie was a member of a number of Civic and Fraternal Organizations, some of which include the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW), The Retired Enlisted Association (TREA), The American Legion, the Order of the Elks and he was a Prince Hall Mason. He truly enjoyed the camaraderie shared with the brothers and the sisters. Eddie was a fun loving man who enjoyed life and those he encircled. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, family and friends. He loved sitting on the front porch where he could enjoy the beauty of Colorado and he often played dominoes. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful man. To know Eddie was to love him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eddie Jackson, Sr. and Mary Lee Jackson; a brother, Chester R. Jackson and sisters, Gwendolyn L. Hill and Ruby Blakely (Eason) and Naomi Looney. Eddie Jackson departed this life on April 5, 2014, in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include his loving and devoted wife, LaVerna J. Jackson; 1 daughter, Minister Gina (Jimmy) McElroy of Dallas, Texas; 2 sons, Eddie G. Jackson of Denver and Martin Jackson of Oklahoma City, OK; 1 brother, Stanley Jackson of Fayetteville, NC; 1 sister, Minister Linda (Minister Bob) McClendon of OKC, OK; 22 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and many friends.
