Doyce Maurice Smith, 72 of Denver, Colorado passed away peacefully on April 20, 2021. He was born to his parents, Hattie and Johnnie Smith on May 3, 1948, in Denver, Colorado. He is the oldest of three children born to this union. As a native of Denver, Doyce was educated through the Denver Public School system and attended East High School where he graduated in 1966. Doyce continued his education, attending Trinidad Junior College where he earned his associates degree.
Doyce would go on to work for the government in secret operations for many years. Although Doyce did not have any children of his own he was blessed with a goddaughter named Shaneen Bryant whom he treated like his own.
Doyce was an avid bowler, he collected countless awards and trophies over the years and was known for his talents in the Denver community. He had a smile that could light up an entire room and always knew how to comfort and encourage others. During his free time, he enjoyed watching football and baseball, but most of all, spending time with his family. He will truly be missed by all of those who were blessed to have known him.
Doyce is preceded in death by his father Johnnie Smith, and brothers Kelvin Don Smith and Delbert V. Smith, several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his loving mother Hattie Smith, niece Caryl Smith Gilbert and her husband Gregory, nephew Mandingo Cooper, great-nephew Osiris Gilbert, many cousins and friends.
In honor of Doyce, a visitation will be held Tuesday, April 27, 2021, 5:00PM-7:00PM at Pipkin Braswell Funeral Home (6601 East. Colfax Avenue, Denver, CO 80220). Funeral Service, Wednesday, April 28, 2021, 10:30AM at Central Baptist Church (2400 California St, Denver, CO 80205), followed by Graveside Service at Fairmount Cemetery.
