Douglas Scott

Douglas DeWayne Scott, also known as, "Doug." Dougie", or "Big Man," was born on November 1, 1956, in Lockhart, Texas, his parents, Elaine Rowlette-Hall and Fred D. Scott. He was the fourth child born to his mother. Douglas was raised surrounded by his brother, Onzie; and sisters, Debbie, and Victoria. His siblings remember Doug as a child having playful ways and creativity in humoring himself and others. He was always laughing and smiling. Doug was a happy, gentle giant.

Doug received his formal education from Denver Public Schools, as his attended East High School then enlisted in the United States Army, where he was trained in explosive demolition. After serving four years in the service, Doug was medically relieved from the active duty, injury connected, and honorably discharged from the U.S. Army. Doug enjoyed his time in the military and was very excited about his veteran benefits to purchasing properties.

One year later, Doug was hired by Councilman Hiawatha Davis to manage the Community House on 28th and Fairfax Street, in the Park Hill neighborhood of Denver, Colorado. He organized entertainment and bands at the Community House, and he also provided security for some dignitaries who came to Denver. Doug also was a roadie and a sound engineer for his sister's bands. During that time, he sustained a serious injury while on duty, which led to his retirement. In the last 25 years, Doug suffered from multiple illnesses, and in the last eight years, he was confined to a wheelchair, in and out of hospitals, rehab centers, and nursing facilities, but through all his trials and tribulations; he always managed to keep a positive attitude, warm smile, and sense of humor. He would always say "I will live my life to the fullest." That inspired others by his determination and tenacity to remain independent.

Doug's spiritual belief was strong, always giving God praises. He did not belong to a church, but he would attend church wherever he resided.

Doug had a beautiful tenor voice, he loved singing gospel music watching the Denver Broncos, wrestling, old cowboy movies, all while cooking ham hocks, neck bones, and beans. Doug always stayed in touch with his sister to let her know of his whereabouts and how he was doing almost daily. Doug was a giver of gifts, never wanting anything in return. He was blessed with a big heart of gold, and was quick to say, "I love you."

Douglas DeWayne Scott departed this life on December 9, 2018, in Aurora, Colorado. He will be terribly missed by his sister, Debbie (Jim), brother, Onzie (Victoria) of Texas; nieces; Tyra, Yolanda, and Helen; nephews; Johnny, Jerel, Wayland, and Charles; and a host of many cousins, uncles, aunts, other relatives, and lifelong friends including Debbie's best friend, Glenora Ryder.
