Dorothy Mae Winston was born on August 29, 1937, in Caldwell, Texas to her parents, Emmitt Clemons, Sr. and Erma Fisher Clemons. She was the seventh child born in the family. She was raised surrounded by her brothers, Emmitt, Haywood and her sisters, Lillian, Lovie, Joyce, Lillie, and Huline. As a child, she loved swimming in the creek on the family property. She also remembered seeing the first cars invented and chasing them to see if she could run faster. She was raised in a rural area which offered plenty outdoor space. Dorothy received her formal education in Bryan, Texas and was a 1957, graduate of E.A. Kemp High School. In January of 1958, Dorothy united in holy matrimony to Joe Boy Wilson. They first met when they both were in high school in Bryan, Texas. To this union, Adrienne, Jacqueline, Darrell and Joe were born. She was later blessed with eleven great grandchildren, who were an additional source of joy and pride in her life.
