In Loving Memory
Dorothy Faye Trimble
February 12, 1935 - October 18, 2019
On February 12, 1935, Dorothy Faye "Dot", was born to her loving parents, Odessa Flanagan and Claudie Johns, in Henderson, Texas. She was one of five children into the family, a brother Dexter and sisters Cora, Lue Kate, and Bonnie Ruth. Dorothy found ways to keep the peace among her siblings. She was not a fighter, but she found ways to get back at her brother. Dorothy would get a good lick in on Dexter and then run and hide in the fields until it was time to come home under the protection of her mother. Dorothy was educated in Henderson, Texas and graduated from Antioch High School.
Following high school Dorothy met the love of her life, Calvin Trimble, and they were married on February 7, 1952, in Henderson, Texas. To this union five children were born, Sherry, Marilyn, Calvin, Belinda and Marva. The family moved to Denver, Colorado in the 1960's.
A woman of God, Dorothy was an active member if Pilgrim Rest for many years and later attended New Life Church. She was a hard-working woman who made family her priority, sometimes working two jobs to make ends meet. She worked for Davison Nursing Home, Presbyterian Hospital for 15 years and Denver Public Schools in the Food Services, as a supervisor, retiring after 25 years of service.
Dorothy was a woman of style and grace. Dorothy had a great sense of humor, loved music, especially Johnny Taylor and BB King. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed the time she spent with family and friends. Her signature dish was egg custard pie. Cookouts, watching the Broncos, Jazz in the Park, and the annual Juneteenth celebrations were all a source of joy to Dorothy. She not only enjoyed cooking, she also enjoyed going out to dinner.
Her children remember the love that went into her food, going shopping and traveling back and forth between Denver and Texas. Grand-daughter, April remembers her fried pies, the extensive number of recipes she shared, and how she loved her grandchildren. Dorothy loved to see the grandchildren dressed-up during the holiday gatherings making their time together particularly special.
