Dorothy Ann McBride was born on April 8, 1937, in Roanoke, Alabama to her parents, Gene Dorsey and Elizabeth Potter Dorsey. She was the only child born to this union. As a child, Dorothy loved school and going to church. The family eventually relocated to Massillon, Ohio and Dorothy received her early education by graduating from Washington High School. She furthered her education by attending Arapahoe Community College in Littleton, Colorado. On June 13, 1955, Dorothy married her soul-mate, Thomas W. McBride. They first met when they both were in the fourth grade at Franklin Elementary School in Massillon, Ohio. Thomas would chase and pull Dorothy's hair and their love would grow from a puppy love into an everlasting love of 61+ years. He fondly remembers Dorothy as a loving and devoted wife. The love they shared was unconditional. He credits his wife as having "saved his life." He recalls that Dorothy approached the US Army Adjutant General, during a time of war, and pleaded that they not send Thomas overseas. This was an unheard of request and she broke all chains of command in doing so. Needless to say, the request was granted. He did not go overseas. Thomas knew he had a very special woman that would stand beside him for the rest of his life. To this loving union, four children, Thomas W. II, Mark W. I, David W. and Leila A., were born. The relationship shared with her children was one of a doting mother, who only wanted what was best for her children. She truly enjoyed all the happy and precious moments they all shared together. Dorothy was later blessed with eleven grandchildren, Lia, Timothy, Mark, II, Rose, Thomas, III, Elizabeth, Latisha, Latasha, Brittany, Brianah, Niya, and five great grandchildren, who all were an additional source of joy and pride in her life; they too have shared many happy and memorable moments together. By profession, Dorothy was employed by the University of Colorado Health Science Center as a Supervisor in the Bindery Department of the Denison Medical Library. She was hardworking, dependable and performed her duties with a spirit of excellence. A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Dorothy was a faithful and dedicated member of New Hope Baptist Church for over 50 years. She joined the church under the pastoral leadership of the late Reverend A.C. Dones. She served her church and the Lord as a member of the Deaconess Board, the Nursing Home Committee and the Nursery. She truly enjoyed the fellowship shared with her church family and wisdom and knowledge she gained as she studied the Bible. Dorothy was a fun-loving woman, who enjoyed life and those she encircled. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, shopping and spending quality time with family and friends. Her closest friends, the late Lorraine Peters and Eva Smith shared many moments together, whether conversing over the phone or just enjoying each other's company. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful woman. To know Dorothy was to love her. She is preceded in death by two sons, Thomas W. McBride, II, and David W. McBride and her parents, Gene and Elizabeth Dorsey. Deaconess Dorothy Ann McBride departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on July 3, 2016, in Littleton, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include her loving and devoted husband for more than 61 years, Thomas W. McBride, I of Littleton, Colorado; son, Mark E. McBride and daughter, Leila A. Hill both of Denver; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; an uncle, Fred (Loretta), The Potter of Denver, and a host of other relatives and many friends.
