Dorothy Haynes

February 28, 1935 — March 24, 2017

Dorothy Nell Pickford Goodwin Haynes, affectionately called "Dorothy Nell," was born in Denver, Colorado, on February 28, 1935, to her parents, Andrew Pickford and Daisy Lewis Pickford. Dorothy was blessed to enter a family of eight siblings. Her sister, Joyce Ann remembers Dorothy, as a child, being very "real" and unselfish; she would follow her brothers, whom she cherished, Andrew, Jr., Lonnie, Robert, Leonard Beau, Richard, James, and Leon "Corky", wherever they went. Dorothy attended Manual High School in Denver, and graduated in 1952. Shortly after graduation, she married Robert Lee Jones of Dallas, Texas and to that union; Patricia Ann and Robert Lee, Jr. were born. After the marriage was dissolved, Dorothy returned to Denver, Colorado. Later, she met and married Freddie Goodwin in Amarillo, Texas in 1957. To this union, Brenda Kay was born. Dorothy and Freddie relocated to Pasadena California in 1973, where Dorothy worked at Huntington Memorial Hospital until 1992. During her years with Huntington Memorial, she earned her certification as a Central Technician. In 1981, in the beautiful city of Pasadena, Dorothy dedicated her life to Jesus Christ and was baptized at Holy Assembly Church of God in Christ. In 1992, the family returned to Denver, Colorado where Dorothy continued her medical profession at the Aurora Medical Center until her retirement in 2009. She continued her walk of faith by uniting with Heritage Christian Center. After the passing of her loving husband of 53 years, Dorothy met and married James Henry Haynes in Aurora, Colorado in 2007. Dorothy will always be remembered as a loving mother to her three children, and her grandson Matthew. She was also instrumental in the rearing of grandchildren, Diana Marie and Shannon Melissa who both resided with her for a season. Robert Lee expressed, he has a lot of memories which are too numerous to express. Patricia remembers her mother as a very loving caring person who gave her a lot of important advice during her life as a child and as an adult. Brenda Kay remembers her mother as always being available to talk to, and always being supportive and encouraging toward her academic pursuits. Brenda remembers calling her mother each day at 5 p.m. as she drove home from work. Her grandchild, Dee remembers Dorothy as always having a kind word, sweet smile, and a gentle spirit. She recalls Dorothy as the kind of grandmother who didn't mind being called by her first name because she knew all her children loved her. Matthew says, "Dorothy Nell always found a way to make difficult times appear easy as if there were no hardships at hand." She was selfless and appreciative if someone did something for her. In her leisure time, Dorothy Nell enjoyed crossword puzzles, word search, reading, and watching "Little House on the Prairie." Dorothy Nell Pickford Goodwin Haynes departed this life on the 24th of March 2017. She is survived by her husband, James H. Haynes; her daughters, Patricia A. Brown, Brenda Kay Goodwin Cuney; her son, Robert Lee Jones, Jr.; (3) grandchildren; (2) great-grandchildren; (3) great-great-grandchildren; (2) brothers; (1) sister; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
