Doris Marie Wilson Brown was born on September 28, 1928, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to her parents, Jody Wilson and Cleo Gaffney Wilson. She was the 3rd of nine children born in the family. She received her formal education in Oklahoma. After graduating from high school, she relocated to Los Angeles, California to be near her father. On June 7, 1953, Doris united in holy matrimony to Cecil Brown, they first met when they both lived in California. In 1952, they relocated to Denver, Colorado. To this union, a son, Cecil Brown, Jr. was born. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. She took great pride in the care and nurture of her family. The family shared many happy and precious moments together. By profession, Doris was employed by the Carver Day Nursery. She was hard-working, dedicated and dependable. She retired after many years of service. A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Doris was a member of Campbell Chapel AME Church. She served her church and the Lord as a member of the choir and the Sunday School. She truly enjoyed the fellowship with her church family and the wisdom and knowledge she gained as she studied the Bible. Doris will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful woman. To know Doris was to love her. She is preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Brown, Sr.; her parents, Jody and Cleo Wilson; a sister; and four brothers. Doris Marie Brown departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on June 28, 2016, in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include her son, Cecil Brown, Jr. of Denver; 1 brother, Albert W. Pless of Roxbury, MA; 2 sisters, Freda Mansfield of Stockton, CA and Juanita (Orville) Givens of Los Angeles, CA, her God daughter, Chonda Miller of Denver, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and many friends.
