Denver, Colorado

Doreatha “Suta” Russell was born on July 28, 1938, in Clarksville, Texas to her parents, Elvira Stenson and William Morgan.  She was the second child born in this family along with her brothers, Samuel Morgan, John Morgan, and WC Williams, and her sisters, Ollie Mae Morgan and Evelyn Marie Hill.

She was educated in the Clarksville Catholic Schools System and later moved to Amarillo, Texas. As a young adult, she enjoyed hanging out with her friends. She was a kind-hearted person and was very protective of her siblings.

Her family moved to Denver, Colorado, and she met and married Donald Russell. To this union Veronica Russell and Donald “Donny” Russell were born.  She was a caring and loving mother who not only raised her own children but raised and took care of many children within her family.

Her grandchildren enjoyed spending time at grandma’s. One of their fondest memories included her cooking soul food and teaching them about the bible. And, when they would misbehave, she would have them go get a switch from the tree in the backyard.

She received her GED and a Data Entry certificate from Emily Griffith Opportunity School.

She worked for the Colorado Department of Health (Vital Statistics) as a Data Entry Operator.  She retired after 35 years of service. Doreatha’s daughter Veronica, recalls having very bad asthma attacks ask a child. And, Doreatha would take her to work with her where she would fall asleep on the office sofa.

The Russell family was close friends to the Miles and Phillips family. The Miles family organized Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church where Doreatha became one of the founding members of the church with all of their children combined. She became a Missionary of the church where she taught Sunday School, as well as praying for the sick and shut ins at hospitals and homes.  She was a dedicated member for more than 50 years, she loved and worshipped God and enjoyed fellowshipping with her church family. She enjoyed attending church anniversaries, helping with the food bank and picnics at the park.

She was best friends with Pastor Henry and First Lady Thelma Miles (deceased), Velma Fowler (deceased) and the Rosie Morgan family of Denver, Colorado.

She will always be remembered for her unconditional love. A kind spirited individual who lived her life for Christ. She was always expressing her gratitude to others by appreciating their acts of kindness.

2 Timothy 4: 7-8 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
