Donald “Don” Earl Box was a kind and caring man, born on January 31, 1949 to the late Willie Box, Sr. and Anna May Box in Chicago, Illinois. He was raised surrounded by his siblings, Patricia, Jean Marie, Willie, Edwina, and Andrea. Donald was fondly known as “Ducky”.
Donald matriculated through the Chicago Public School system, graduating from Marshall High in 1967. After graduating, Donald attended Fairbury Junior College in Nebraska. Being the avid learner that he was, he went on to earn his Bachelors degree in Sociology and a Masters in Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado, where he was President of the Black Student Union.
Donald accepted Christ the Lord as his Saviour at an early age, and attended Metropolitan Baptist Church in Chicago. He later join Shorter AME in 1985 where he remained faithful until his passing.
Don married his high school sweetheart, JoRhonda [Monegain} in 1973 in Chicago, IL. To this union two sons were born, Donald II. and Dakarai. His sons were his pride and joy. He was a very “hands on” dad not only to his boys but to their friends as well. Don was blessed to have 19 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren- all of whom he adored.
In his free time, Don enjoyed time with his sons, mentoring and coaching, art, jazz, traveling- specifically to the islands, and time with family and friends in Chicago and Denver.
Donald Earl Box, departed this life to the embracement of the Lord on August 2, 2021 in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Donald II. and Dakarai (Haneefah) Box; his siblings, brother in law Anthony McGee; sister in law, Sharon McGuire Box; 19 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Celebration of Life, Saturday, August 14, 2021, 2:00PM at Pipkin Braswell Chapel of Peace (6601 East Colfax Ave, Denver, CO 80220). Celebration of life will be followed directly by a Repast in the reception hall.
