Devontei Pewett

March 20, 1992 — August 16, 2013

DeVontei Shakur Pewett blessed his parents, Dornise Coleman Pewett and Trevor J. Pewett with his birth on March 20, 1992, in Aurora, Illinois. He was the second born in the family. He was raised surrounded by his brother, Timothy and his sister, TreManda. He was given the nickname "Bunkie" because he believed that he had 'Bunkie Power' because he slept in top bunk bed. As a child, he was curious, loving and a quick learner. He was quiet in his demeanor and had a calm personality. He was shy, vigilant and he was very polite growing up. DeVontei received his formal education in Chicago, IL, where he graduated from Kenwood Academy High School. He furthered his education by attending the College of Dupage in Glenn Ellyn, IL, the Kennedy King College in Chicago, IL, Syracuse College in Syracuse, New York and the Arapahoe Community College in Denver, Colorado. DeVontei was a hardworking young man with dreams and aspirations of future prosperity. He was a man who was passionate about faith, fashion, beauty, art, music, dance and being a volunteer. His family remembers him wanting to become a Plastic Surgeon or perhaps a Celebrity Stylist for the stars. He strongly believed that mediocrity could never be a solution for success because nothing average ever stood as a monument to progress. DeVontei was employed by a production company called "DeLusions of Grandeur" filmed in Chicago, IL. He was their lead Wardrobe Stylist and Assistant in Casting as well as an up incoming actor. He loved his job and was respected for his talent. He is remembered as being hardworking, dedicated and dependable. He performed his duties with precision and excellence. A man of faith and belief in the Lord, DeVontei accepted the Lord as his personal savior and was baptized when he was 10 years old at Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church in Aurora, Colorado. He was also a member of the Oakdale Covenant Church located in Chicago, IL. He truly believed in the power of prayer and that everyone needed to have the right relationship with the Lord. DeVontei was a fun loving man who enjoyed life and those he encircled. His best friend Ryan will miss the camaraderie they shared together and the fact that he was a true and genuine friend. In his free time, he enjoyed running, reading and dancing. In April of 2013, DeVontei was diagnosed with a progressive stage of Skin Cancer. He was also treated for a Kidney Malfunction. He faced his illness with courage and strength. His summer was spent with treatments, medications and numerous doctors' visits and appointments. The treatments included extensive medical and physical therapy which proved debilitating and evasive. He was ultimately placed on life support for nine days. He is preceded in death by his "PaPa" Autress D. Lowe and his nephew, Carter Orlando Pewett. On August 16, 2013; on his brothers 23rd birthday, in Denver, Colorado, the Lord called DeVontei Shakur Pewett from labor to his heavenly reward. I Corinthians 13:4-8 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include his parents, Trevor J. Pewett and Dornise L. Pewell both of Highlands Ranch, CO; one brother, Timothy O. (Summar) Pewett; one sister, TreManda J. Pewett; one niece, London S. Pewett all of Highlands Ranch, CO; his grandparents, Pamela Lowe, Charlie and Mary Pewett; his special grandmother, Rita Chaney; his great grandmother, Lillie Mae Coleman all of Aurora, IL; 4 aunts; 5 uncles and a host of other relatives and many friends.
