Denise Martin

August 12, 1958 — September 30, 2018

Denise JoAnn Martin was born on August 12, 1958, in New Brunswick, New Jersey to her parents, Joseph Pinken Francis and Janice Dismukes Francis. She was raised surrounded by her brother, Wyndell, and her sisters, Felicia, Vanessa, and Janice. Her siblings remember her reading stories, coloring and playing with them. When she started working for Toys R Us, she would often bring toys home for them and she is remembered as teaching the youngest sibling to drive. Denise received her early education in New Jersey where she graduated from Colonia High School. She furthered her education by attending Rutgers College in New Brunswick, New Jersey. On March 15, 2013, Denise united in holy matrimony to Thomas Alexander Martin, III in Second Baptist Church in Rahway, New Jersey. He remembers her laughter, her genuine love of God, and the mutual love and respect they had for each other. By profession, Denise was employed in Administration and Business Development. She was employed with Johnson and Johnson Products in Administration and Human Resources. She was also employed as a over the road Truck Driver for JB Hunt Interstate International. While residing in Oklahoma, She and her sister, Janice opened “Coffy’s Café” which was a Vegetarian Coffee Shop where local musicians and artist could hear and perform “Open Mic” poetry and music. For the past five years, Denise has been a member of New Hope Baptist in Denver, Colorado under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Dr. Eugene Downing, Jr. She served her church and the Lord as a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Food Ministry, and a member of the Tuesday Bible Study Group. She truly enjoyed the wisdom and knowledge she gained as she studied the Bible and the fellowship shared with her church family. Her closest friends, Deacon Syl Morgan Smith, Teresa Allen, and Deacon Sandy Seale will miss all the happy and precious moments they shared together. In her free time, she enjoyed watching Disney movies to include “Wali” and “Up.” She continued to love reading, baking, and tinkering with gadgets. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful woman of God and Grace. To know Denise was to love her. Denise J. Martin departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on September 30, 2018, in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include her husband, Reverend Thomas A. Martin, III of Denver, Colorado; 1 brother, Wyndell J. Francis of Rahway, New Jersey; 2 sisters, Felecia L. Francis of Atlanta, Georgia and Janice L.
